Bernard Controls SQ Electric Quarter-Turn Actuator

The SQ series comprises electric actuators for quarter-turn (1/4 turn) operation, suitable for ball valves, butterfly valves, plug valves, dampers, and louvers. Direct output torque ranges from 40–800 Nm; with gearboxes, up to 10,000 Nm. Higher torques are available upon application review for special configurations.

Technical Specifications

  • Valve interface: ISO 5211 mounting.
  • Duty classes: On-Off (Class A/A+), Inching/Positioning (Class B/B+), Modulating (Class III) per EN 15714-2.
  • Power supply: 3-phase, single-phase, or DC, up to 690 V, 50/60 Hz.
  • TENV motor, Class F insulation, thermal protection included.
  • Duty cycle: S4 30% (up to 360 starts/hour) for on-off/positioning; S4 50% (up to 1,200 starts/hour) for modulating service.

Control and Feedback Options

Available versions: SWITCH (limit and torque switches), INTEGRAL+ / POSIGAM+ (analog control), INTELLI+ (non-intrusive setup, local display, alarm logging, ESD, partial stroke test). Communication protocols: Profibus DPV1, Modbus RTU, Foundation Fieldbus, HART.

Environmental and Mechanical Protection

Enclosure: weatherproof, IP67 standard, IP68 optional. Corrosion protection: C3 to C5-M per ISO 12944. Operating temperature: -20 to +70°C (option: -40°C), up to +90°C for SWITCH versions. Self-locking gearing, manual override with mechanical position indicator.

Used in industrial water, steam, condensate, air, fuel gas, cooling, water treatment, and auxiliary utility lines. Selection based on valve torque, 90° operating time, duty cycle, control voltage, ESD/feedback requirements, and environmental conditions.

When to select SQ over AQ?
For heavier-duty quarter-turn applications, higher torque with gearbox, or advanced control via INTELLI+.

What is checked during maintenance?
Cable glands, IP sealing, mechanical stops, torque setting, manual override, fault relays, analog signals, and alarm history.
