Actuators
Valve actuators are used for automated or manually assisted operation of isolation and control valves in steam, water, air, thermal oil, HVAC, chemical process, marine, and general industrial automation systems. Selection should be based on the required motion type—linear or 90° rotary—together with available instrument air pressure or power supply voltage, required output thrust or torque, stroke, operating time, cycling frequency, and the valve fail-safe position.
Linear pneumatic actuators are applied mainly on control valves and globe-type shut-off valves. The ARI DP is specified for maximum air supply pressure of 6 bar, stroke up to 120 mm, ambient temperature from -10°C to +80°C, and spring-return options for fail action on loss of air supply. Required actuator thrust should be checked against valve differential pressure, packing friction, and the specified leakage class.
Electric linear actuators such as the ARI PREMIO are used where an electrical control signal is required and no instrument air system is available. Reported thrust ranges are 2.2-25 kN, with power supplies of 230 V AC, 24 V DC, or 24 V AC/DC, enclosure protection IP65, and ambient temperature range -20°C to +70°C. For modulating duty, selection should consider positioner function, stroke feedback, torque or force limit switches, and response time.
Rack-and-pinion pneumatic rotary actuators, in double-acting or spring-return execution, are used on ball valves, butterfly valves, and plug valves. The Actreg ADA/ASR range is specified for 90° rotation ±5°, air supply pressure up to 8 bar, NAMUR and VDI/VDE 3845 mounting for accessories, and ISO 5211 / DIN 3337 valve interface dimensions.
Electric rotary actuators are used for on-off, modulating, 3-position, emergency backup, Modbus, and ATEX or marine service. For the Valpes DV/DVX series, published data include IP68 enclosure, torque range 25-300 Nm, ISO 5211 mounting, RS485 communication, S4 50% duty rating, ambient temperature from -20°C to +70°C, and BBPR/POSI options. Gear operators are used where high manual operating torque is required; the Alfa Gear E series is specified up to 4,500 Nm, IP67, with EN ISO 5211 / DIN 3210 connection dimensions.
