Butterfly Valve Wafer Alfa Europe S59 PTFE

The S59 is a wafer-type butterfly valve with PTFE lining, designed for lines where the chemical compatibility of an elastomeric liner is insufficient. It is primarily used as an isolation valve in industrial chemical networks, treated water systems, acidic/alkaline solutions, and processes requiring low adhesion inside the valve.

Technical Configuration

  • Sizes: DN50–DN600.
  • Connection: wafer between flanges.
  • Flanges: EN 1092 PN6/PN10/PN16 and ASME B16.5 Class 150.
  • Design: EN 593.
  • Face-to-face: EN 558-1 Series 20 / ISO 5752 Series 20 / API 609 Cat. A.
  • Top flange: ISO 5211 for actuator or manual operation.

Materials and Seats

Available constructions include body in EN-JS1030 ductile iron, ASTM A216 WCB, or stainless steel 1.4408. The disc is available in 1.4408, WCB/PTFE, or SS/PTFE, depending on the chemical requirements of the application. Basic seat/liner options are:

  • EPDM + PTFE: up to approximately +120 °C.
  • Silicone + PTFE: up to approximately +180 °C.
  • Viton + PTFE: up to approximately +180 °C.

Selection Note: The product page indicates a range of -40 to +200 °C, while Alfa Europe's technical sheets specify a general range of -20 to +180 °C with specific limits per seat material. Final limits should be confirmed based on fluid, concentration, temperature, and pressure.

Actuation Options

  • Bare shaft: for pneumatic or electric actuator.
  • Lever: DN50–DN200 for local on/off operation.
  • Gearbox: DN50–DN600, suitable for larger diameters and lower operating torque.

Typical Applications

  • Chemical lines with corrosive fluids.
  • Process water with additives.
  • Dilute acids and alkalis, after compatibility check.
  • Industrial liquid processing units.
  • Lines requiring PTFE wetted surface.

FAQ

Is it suitable for steam?
Not without specific pressure, temperature, and liner checks. PTFE lining alone is not sufficient for steam selection.

When is it preferred over EPDM/NBR butterfly valve?
When the medium is chemically aggressive or requires an internal PTFE surface instead of a simple elastomeric liner.
