ALFA Gear XK Range Bevel Gearbox

The ALFA Gear XK Range is a multi-turn bevel gearbox designed for manual operation of gate, globe, and penstock valves. It is not intended for quarter-turn valves. Selection is based on applications requiring multiple stem turns and axial thrust transfer to the drive sleeve.

Technical Specifications

  • Sizes: XK-5, XK-10, XK-20, XK-40
  • Gear Ratios: 3:1, 4:1, 4:1, 6:1
  • Max Output Torque: 500 to 4,000 Nm
  • Output Axial Thrust: 120 to 460 kN
  • Weight: 12 to 74 kg
  • Flanges: ISO 5211 F10 to F30 (size dependent)
  • Max Stem Diameter: Ø32 to Ø70 mm

Construction & Materials

Body and cover: ductile cast iron JS1030 / GGG40. Drive sleeve: bronze alloy QAL9-4 / C95400 or ductile cast iron. Input shaft: C45 steel. Axial and needle bearings are used for stem thrust transfer.

Environment & Connection

Standard ingress protection: IP67; IP68 optional. Operating temperature: -50 to +150 °C. Valve mounting per EN ISO 5211 or DIN 3210 with coupling adaptation as required.

Selection Logic

Selection is based on:

  • Valve opening/closing torque
  • Stem axial thrust
  • Number of valve turns
  • Stem type: rising, non-rising, keyed, or custom
  • Available space for handwheel or extension

Applications

Used on isolation valves for water, steam, wastewater, cooling, penstocks, water treatment networks, and industrial plants with multi-turn valves. Media compatibility is determined by the valve; gearbox selection is based on torque, thrust, flange, and environmental requirements.

FAQ

When to select XK vs S or M Range?
Use XK for multi-turn valves requiring bevel gearboxes; not for quarter-turn worm gearboxes.

What is checked during maintenance?
Enclosure sealing, handwheel, coupling, stem axial load, drive sleeve wear, and increased operating torque.
