Bernard Controls AQL1 Electric Quarter-Turn Actuator

The Bernard Controls AQL1 is part of the AQL series for quarter-turn valves, including ball, butterfly, and plug valves. This series covers direct output torques from 15–70 Nm, targeting small industrial isolation or open/close valves.

  • Power supply: 85–260 V AC 50/60 Hz. Options for 24 V DC or 12 V DC, 2- or 3-wire connection.
  • DC motor, duty cycle S4-30%, up to 120 starts/hour peak.
  • Aluminum housing, epoxy powder coating, corrosion protection C4 per ISO 12944.
  • Ingress protection IP68 / NEMA 4X, ambient temperature -20 to +60 °C.

Control and Feedback

Standard version is SWITCH prewired with adjustable camblock for travel limits. Includes 2 SPDT switches for open/close position and 2 auxiliary signal switches, rated 250 V AC / 5 A or 48 V DC / 2.5 A. Options: position transmitter 4–20 mA and positioner 4–20 mA in/out.

Mechanical Interface

Output flange per ISO 5211. Self-locking mechanism. Manual override via 10 mm hex output. Cable entries: 2 x M20, optional quick connector IP68.

Applications

Used for automation of small water, air, HVAC, auxiliary gas valves, and low-torque process lines. Media compatibility depends on valve and materials. Actuator selection based on torque, 90° operating time, power supply, control signal, and installation environment.

FAQ

When to select AQL1 over AQ?
When required torque is up to 70 Nm and higher torques or AQ series LOGIC functions are not needed.

What is checked during maintenance?
Cable glands, IP sealing, camblock adjustment, auxiliary switches, ISO 5211 mechanical interface, and manual hex override.
