Bernard Controls AQ Electric Quarter-Turn Actuator

The AQ series comprises electric quarter-turn actuators for ball valves, butterfly valves, and plug valves. Direct output torque ranges from 50–1,000 Nm; with gearboxes, applications up to 10,000 Nm are supported. Higher torques are available for special projects upon request.

Control Versions

  • AQ SWITCH: Electromechanical version with travel limit switches, auxiliary switches, and torque switches (from AQ25 and above).
  • AQ LOGIC: Integrated control with reversing starters, LCD interface, position sensor, torque sensor, and non-intrusive torque setting.
  • Operating classes: On-Off (Class A), Inching/Positioning (Class B), Modulating (Class III).

Construction and Operating Conditions

Enclosure is aluminum with epoxy powder coating and C4 corrosion protection (ISO 12944). Enclosure sealing is IP68 / NEMA 4X. Ambient temperature: -20 to +70 °C, with low-temperature option to -40 °C. Valve mounting via ISO 5211 flange and removable output drive.

Electrical and Signals

Available power supplies: 1ph 115/220/230 V AC, 3ph 380–415 V AC, 3ph 440–480 V AC, and 24 V DC (selected sizes). LOGIC version supports dry contact or 10–250 V DC commands, relay outputs, fault relay, analog positioner (4–20 mA / 0–10 V), and Modbus RTU or Profibus DPV1 options.

Actuator Selection Criteria

Sizing is based on valve torque, 90° rotation time, duty cycle, available panel voltage, required feedback, and environmental conditions. Process media is determined by the valve; the AQ actuator does not contact the medium.

Typical Applications

Suitable for water, steam, condensate, air, auxiliary gases, HVAC, water treatment plants, and industrial isolation or control lines.
