Clorius Duostat V4.05 / V4.10 – Self-Actuating Dual Sensor Thermostat

The Clorius Duostat is a type V thermostat featuring dual sensors within a common hydraulic system, both influencing the same control valve. It is utilized when temperature regulation must not rely on a single measurement point but rather on the combined effect of two temperatures.

Operating Principle

The control outcome is a weighted average of the temperatures measured by the two sensors. The weighting depends on the liquid volume ratio Vs/Vp between the secondary and primary sensors. Consequently, the Duostat does not have a standard °C scale but an adjustment indicator for higher or lower temperature settings.

Technical Specifications

  • Types: V4.05 and V4.10.
  • Closing force: 500 N.
  • Capillary length: 3–21 m.
  • Dead zone: 1.5–2.5°C.
  • Temperature range: 0–160°C, special -30 to 280°C upon request.
  • Maximum stroke: 21 mm.
  • For linear valves up to DN150.
  • Suitable for heating or cooling valves.

Difference Between V4.05 and V4.10

The V4.05 has a displacement of 0.5 mm/°C, while the V4.10 has 1.0 mm/°C. Selection affects the proportional band and must be correlated with DN, valve stroke, and required control behavior. Various sensor ratios are available, such as 0.35:1, 0.5:1, 0.7:1, 1:1, and approximately 1.4–1.45:1.

Typical Applications

  • Air heating systems with external temperature compensation,
  • Hot water tanks in district heating with return temperature limitation,
  • Spaces with air heating, where the exhaust sensor functions as a room thermostat and the supply sensor limits undesirably low air temperature.

Installation

In installations with vibrations, such as maritime systems, support of the control cylinder and securing of the capillary are required. The end near the handle must remain free for axial displacement during adjustment.
