Ball Valve wafer - Type FA2 | ADLER

ADLER FA2 Wafer Full-Bore Ball Valve

The ADLER FA2 is a full-bore wafer-pattern ball valve for installation between pipe flanges. It is used for isolation service in liquid, gas and steam systems where a shorter face-to-face length is required compared with a conventional flanged ball valve.

Technical Data

  • Nominal sizes: DN15 to DN300
  • Pressure classes: PN16 to PN160 / ANSI Class 150 to Class 1500
  • Body materials: ASTM A105, ASTM A479 304, ASTM A479 316
  • Seat materials: PTFE or RPTFE
  • End connection: wafer type, installed between flanges
  • Dimensional / flange standards: DIN or ANSI execution

Operating Principle

The full-bore design reduces pressure drop when the valve is fully open and is suitable where line pigging, reduced turbulence or lower head loss is relevant. As with any soft-seated ball valve, seat selection shall be checked against fluid temperature, pressure, chemical compatibility and expected cycling frequency.

Seat and Material Selection

  • PTFE seats: used for clean fluids, gases and moderate temperature duties within the seat rating.
  • RPTFE seats: selected where higher mechanical seat strength or improved resistance to deformation is required.
  • ASTM A105 body: commonly used for carbon steel process and utility lines.
  • AISI 304 / 316 stainless steel bodies: used where corrosion resistance or fluid compatibility requires stainless construction.

Suitable Media

  • Steam, subject to seat temperature and pressure limits
  • Water and industrial utility circuits
  • Compressed air
  • Neutral gases
  • Corrosive gases or liquids, provided body, trim and seat materials are compatible with the process fluid

Typical Applications

  • Process isolation in chemical, utility and general industrial plants
  • Steam distribution branches and equipment isolation points
  • Compressed air headers and skid-mounted systems
  • HVAC and industrial water circuits with flanged piping
  • Compact installations where valve length is a constraint

Actuation Options

The FA2 can be equipped with a pneumatic or electric actuator for on/off service, remote operation or integration into PLC, BMS or DCS systems. Actuator sizing depends on DN, differential pressure, seat material, operating pressure, available instrument air or voltage, required stroke time and fail-safe position.

Comparison with Conventional Flanged Ball Valves

  • Shorter installation length due to wafer construction
  • Lower weight than many equivalent flanged designs
  • Requires correct flange alignment and suitable bolting practice
  • Maintenance access depends on the surrounding piping arrangement

Standards and Documentation

Execution is available to DIN or ANSI flange practice and pressure classes up to PN160 or ANSI Class 1500. For procurement, confirm material certificates, pressure test requirements, leakage class, temperature rating and any project-specific documentation before ordering.

FAQ

Can the FA2 be used on steam?
Yes, if the pressure, temperature and seat material rating are within the application limits.

When is RPTFE preferred over PTFE?
RPTFE is normally selected where the seat must resist higher mechanical loading or deformation.

Is it suitable for throttling?
It is primarily an isolation valve. Continuous throttling may damage soft seats and should be reviewed separately.
