Ghidini 5330 4G 2-Way Ball Valve

The Ghidini 5330 is a three-piece “Integral Seal” ball valve in stainless steel, configured for automated on/off isolation in process piping. It includes an ISO 5211 / DIN 3337 actuator mounting interface for direct installation of pneumatic or electric actuators.

Technical Characteristics

  • Valve type: 2-way full-port ball valve for shut-off service
  • Body construction: three-piece, Integral Seal design
  • Material: AISI 316L / EN 1.4404 stainless steel
  • Connections: ISO 228-1 threaded, NPT threaded, socket weld, butt weld
  • Pressure classes: PN 16, PN 25, PN 40, PN 64, depending on size and connection
  • Seats: virgin PTFE
  • Actuator interface: ISO 5211 / DIN 3337
  • Operation: pneumatic or electric actuator, typically quarter-turn
  • Function: fully open or fully closed isolation, not throttling control

Typical Applications

The 5330 is used where a stainless steel isolation valve must be connected to a control system, interlock, or remote operating panel. Typical duties include utility water, compressed air, inert gases, clean liquids, compatible chemical services, and auxiliary process circuits.

Media compatibility shall be checked against 316L stainless steel and PTFE. Temperature limits depend on the seat material, pressure rating, actuator selection, and the process fluid; the valve datasheet should be used for final verification.

Actuation and Control

  • Pneumatic double-acting actuator for standard open/close control
  • Pneumatic spring-return actuator for fail-open or fail-closed operation
  • Electric quarter-turn actuator where compressed air is not available
  • Optional limit switches, solenoid valves, position feedback, and manual override depending on actuator package

Maintenance and Leakage Considerations

The three-piece body allows access to the internal ball and seats without replacing the complete valve assembly, provided the piping layout permits removal of the centre section. Seat wear, stem sealing condition, actuator alignment, and torque margin should be reviewed during maintenance planning.

Difference from Ghidini 5301

The Ghidini 5301 is the manual version with a stainless steel lever. The 5330 is selected when remote operation, automated sequencing, safety interlocks, or PLC/SCADA integration are required.

Selection Criteria

  • Design pressure and required PN class
  • Pipe connection type and installation constraints
  • Fluid compatibility with 316L stainless steel and PTFE
  • Operating temperature and pressure at normal and upset conditions
  • Required fail position and actuator torque margin
  • Cycle frequency, maintenance access, and leakage acceptance criteria

FAQ

Is the 5330 a control valve?
No. It is intended for on/off isolation. Continuous throttling can damage the seats and ball surface.

When is the Integral Seal design selected?
It is selected when a maintainable three-piece stainless steel ball valve is required with defined seat sealing architecture and actuator-ready construction.
