The i-box Ex ia is a compact plastic position feedback unit for valves equipped with pneumatic rotary actuators. Designed for installations with limited space, it is compatible with actuators featuring an 80×30 mm mounting interface and shaft heights of 20 or 30 mm, without the need for an intermediate mounting bracket.
The IV…IA version is certified for Ex ia intrinsically safe circuits and is suitable for use in Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 21, and Zone 22 hazardous areas. Markings include:

The i-box Ex ia can be fitted with 1–2 mechanical gold contact microswitches or separately certified V3 inductive sensors. Each sensor operates on an independent intrinsically safe circuit. For mechanical gold contacts: Ui 11 V, Ii 15 mA, Pi 35 mW. For inductive sensors, refer to the installed sensor’s nameplate and datasheet for Ui, Ii, Pi, Ci, and Li values.
Used for open/closed indication on ball valves, butterfly valves, and other rotary on/off valves. The unit does not contact process media; selection is based on Ex zone, signal type, ambient temperature, barrier/isolator requirements, and actuator mechanical compatibility, not on PN or pressure class.
Permitted ambient temperature range: -25 °C to +70 °C. For outdoor installations, a pressure compensation element is recommended to minimize condensation. Seals should be inspected regularly, especially under significant temperature fluctuations or vibration.
When is the i-box Ex ia selected?
When position feedback is required in ATEX areas with intrinsically safe circuits.
Can it connect directly to a 24 V DC PLC?
Only if the input passes through a suitable Ex ia barrier or isolator and the sensor’s electrical ratings are observed.
The i-box is the smallest plastic limit switch box in our range. It is particularly suitable for confined system areas with little space and for installation on small drives with a drilling pattern of 80x30mm with a shaft height of 20 or 30mm. Thanks to its sophisticated fastening system, it can be mounted on your drive quickly and easily, without the need for a mounting bridge.
