Ball Valve PN16/40 - Type 1516/1540 | JC

JC Type 1516/1540 PN16/40 Flanged Ball Valve

Two-way split-body full-bore ball valve with DIN flanged ends. Available in PN 16 and PN 40 pressure classes, with carbon steel 1.0619 or stainless steel 1.4408 body construction and PTFE seats.

Construction

  • Full-bore flow path for low pressure drop and pigging compatibility where applicable
  • Blowout-proof stem design
  • Non-removable antistatic device
  • Pressure-balancing hole in the ball cavity
  • Live-loaded stem packing for controlled fugitive emissions
  • DIN flanged connection for installation between standard process piping flanges

Standards and Certifications

Applicable design and compliance references include PED, MSS SP 55, ATEX, Fire-Safe API 607 / ISO 10497, and fugitive emissions ISO 15848 / TA-LUFT. Wetted parts are suitable for applications requiring NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 and NACE MR0103 / ISO 17945 compliance, subject to final material verification.

Suitable Media and Services

  • Hydrocarbons, fuel gas, condensate and general oil and gas service
  • Chemical and petrochemical process fluids compatible with PTFE and the selected body material
  • Utilities, cooling water, compressed air and inert gases
  • Tank terminal transfer lines and loading systems
  • Mining, waste treatment, marine, food and pharmaceutical auxiliary services, where material compatibility is confirmed

Operational Conditions

Selection shall be based on pressure, temperature, fluid phase, corrosion allowance, operating cycles, differential pressure, shut-off requirement and stem leakage class. The allowable temperature range is governed by the PN pressure-temperature rating, PTFE seat limits and the selected body and packing materials.

Variant Selection

  • 1.0619 carbon steel: used for general process duties, hydrocarbons and non-corrosive industrial fluids.
  • 1.4408 stainless steel: selected for corrosive media, stainless piping systems or processes requiring improved chemical compatibility.
  • PN 16: suitable where the design pressure and temperature remain within PN 16 rating limits.
  • PN 40: used for higher design pressure or increased pressure margin, subject to flange and piping class compatibility.

Sealing and Maintenance Considerations

PTFE seats provide soft sealing for bubble-tight isolation in compatible services. Live-loaded packing supports lower stem emissions during thermal cycling and frequent operation. Seat wear, packing load and operating torque should be reviewed during maintenance intervals, especially in abrasive, crystallising or high-cycle service.

Actuation Options

The valve may be specified with manual lever operation, gear operator for higher torque sizes, or pneumatic/electric actuation for remote isolation and process automation. Actuator sizing should consider breakaway torque, media condition, pressure differential, operating frequency and required fail position.

FAQ

Is this valve intended for throttling? It is primarily an isolation valve. Continuous throttling can damage the ball and seats.

Can it be used in hazardous areas? ATEX compliance is available, but the complete valve and actuator assembly must be assessed for the classified zone.

How should PN 16 and PN 40 be compared? Use the project pressure-temperature rating table, not only the nominal PN number.
