Ball Valve Class 800/1500 - Type 3411/31511 FB | JC

JC Ball Valve Type 3411/31511 FB Class 800/1500

Two-way monoblock ball valve for high-pressure process lines with NPT threaded ends. The valve is supplied in Class 800 or Class 1500, with ASTM A105 carbon steel or ASTM A479 Type 316 stainless steel body construction. The specified seat arrangement is AISI 316 metal seat with HT-65 hard treatment.

Construction

  • Reduced-bore flow passage; pressure drop and velocity shall be checked during sizing.
  • Blowout-proof stem for pressure-retaining stem design.
  • Non-removable antistatic device for electrical continuity between ball, stem and body.
  • Cavity pressure equalisation hole to reduce trapped pressure effects.
  • Live-loaded stem packing for improved packing load retention during thermal and pressure cycling.
  • NPT threaded ends in accordance with ANSI practice.

Standards and Certifications

Applicable references include API 6D, PED, MSS SP 55, NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156, NACE MR0103 / ISO 17945, Fire-Safe API 607 / ISO 10497 / API 6FA and ATEX, depending on ordered configuration and documentation scope.

Typical Applications

  • Oil and gas utility and process lines.
  • Chemical and petrochemical plants.
  • Power generation auxiliary systems.
  • Marine and offshore services.
  • Tank terminals, mining, waste treatment, pulp and paper.
  • Food, pharmaceutical and special-fluid duties where material compatibility is verified.

Suitable Media and Operating Conditions

The metal-seated configuration is used where soft seats may be unsuitable due to temperature, pressure, suspended solids, abrasion or seat wear. Media may include hydrocarbons, process chemicals, gases, condensate and selected utilities, subject to compatibility with A105 or 316 stainless steel, AISI 316 seat materials, packing and end connections.

Pressure-temperature limits must be taken from the applicable Class 800 or Class 1500 rating, body material and packing selection. The reduced-bore design is not normally selected where pigging, very low pressure drop or full-line bore access is required.

Variant Selection

  • Class 800: used where the calculated design pressure fits the Class 800 pressure-temperature rating.
  • Class 1500: selected for higher design pressure or when plant piping class requires Class 1500 components.
  • ASTM A105: common for carbon steel piping systems and non-corrosive duties.
  • ASTM A479 Type 316: selected for improved corrosion resistance in compatible services.
  • Metal seat: preferred for erosion, solids, temperature cycling or fire-safe duties; leakage class shall be confirmed against project requirements.

Actuation and Maintenance Notes

The valve may be supplied for manual operation or with pneumatic, electric or hydraulic actuation where automation is required. Actuator sizing shall consider differential pressure, breakaway torque, service temperature, cycling frequency and fail-safe position. Packing inspection, stem leakage checks and seat leakage acceptance criteria should be included in the maintenance plan.

FAQ

Can this valve be used for throttling? It is primarily an isolation valve. Sustained throttling can increase seat and ball erosion, especially with high velocity or solids.

When is the metal seat selected? When soft seats are limited by temperature, pressure, particulate service, wear or fire-safe requirements.

What must be checked before selection? Piping class, pressure-temperature rating, media compatibility, bore restriction, pressure drop, velocity, leakage requirement and actuation torque.
