Ball Valve Class 150/300 - Type 715/730 | JC

JC Type 715/730 Ball Valve Class 150/300

Two-way end-entry ball valve with reduced bore and ANSI flanged ends for industrial isolation of liquids and gases. Available in ASME Class 150 and Class 300. Standard seat material is PTFE, with body options including WCB, CF8M, LCC, LF2, A105N and stainless steel 316L.

Construction

  • Reduced bore design for on/off service where full piggability or minimum pressure loss is not required
  • Blowout-proof stem for pressure-containing stem retention
  • Non-removable antistatic device between ball, stem and body
  • Cavity pressure equalisation hole to limit trapped-pressure effects
  • Live-loaded stem packing for improved packing load stability during thermal and pressure cycling
  • ANSI flanged connection for installation between standard ASME flanges

Standards and Compliance

The valve design covers API 6D, PED, MSS SP 55, ATEX, fire-safe requirements to API 607 / ISO 10497 / API 6FA, and fugitive emissions requirements to ISO 15848 / TA-LUFT. Wetted parts are referenced against NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 and NACE MR0103 / ISO 17945 for sour and refinery service assessment.

Typical Applications

  • Oil and gas process isolation, utility headers and terminal piping
  • Chemical and petrochemical plants handling compatible liquids and gases
  • Power generation auxiliaries and non-steam isolation duties within rating limits
  • Food, pharmaceutical and clean utility systems where selected materials are compatible
  • Marine systems, tank terminals, mining services and waste treatment plants
  • Special fluids subject to seat, body and packing compatibility review

Suitable Media and Operating Conditions

Applicable to clean or moderately clean liquids and gases compatible with PTFE seats and the selected body material. The reduced bore must be checked against allowable pressure drop, flow velocity, cavitation risk in liquids, and any process requirement for line cleaning or pigging.

Class 150 vs Class 300 Selection

  • Class 150: used where pressure-temperature rating is within ASME Class 150 limits and line loads are moderate.
  • Class 300: selected for higher pressure rating, higher mechanical margin, or plant specifications requiring Class 300 flanges.
  • Final selection depends on design pressure, design temperature, fluid phase, corrosion allowance, leakage class expectations and plant piping class.

Sealing and Leakage Considerations

PTFE seats provide soft-seated shut-off for compatible services. Stem sealing is supported by live-loaded packing, which helps maintain compression under vibration, pressure cycling and temperature variation. Fire-safe and fugitive-emission requirements should be confirmed against the project specification and operating envelope.

Actuation Options

The valve may be operated manually or automated where the selected size, torque and mounting arrangement permit. Pneumatic, electric or hydraulic actuation should be sized using differential pressure, seat material, frequency of operation, safety factor and fail-position requirements.

FAQ

Is this a control valve? No. It is primarily an isolation valve. Throttling service should be avoided unless the application has been reviewed for seat wear, noise and erosion.

Can it be used for gas service? Yes, subject to material compatibility, pressure-temperature rating, leakage requirements and applicable ATEX or fugitive-emission requirements.

What is the main limitation of reduced bore? Higher pressure drop compared with full bore and possible restrictions for pigging or line cleaning.
