Eurotec VDI/VDE – WV Shaft Extensions
Eurotec WV shaft extensions are designed for pneumatic rotary actuators with VDI/VDE 3845 interface. They are used when the actuator shaft height is insufficient for proper coupling with limit switch boxes, dual sensors, pucks, or visual position indicators.
Variants
- SI-WV10: Polypropylene shaft extension, length 10 mm.
- Stainless steel version: AISI 303 / 1.4305, length 16 mm.
Functional Role
WV extensions do not contact process media. Their function is mechanical: transmitting rotary motion from the actuator shaft to the position feedback or indication device.
Correct extension selection minimizes:
- axial load on the switch box shaft,
- lateral forces from misalignment,
- incomplete limit switch activation,
- mechanical backlash in open/close signaling.
Use with Brackets and Sensors
WV extensions are used with VDI/VDE-compliant brackets when actuator shaft height does not match the required feedback device height. In installations with varying actuator sizes, they enable adaptation of the same switch box or sensor family without altering the overall assembly.
Applications
Used in automated ball valves, butterfly valves, and plug valves with pneumatic rack & pinion or scotch yoke actuators. Position signals are typically routed to PLCs, DCS, automation panels, or local indicators. Suitable for water, steam, air, and compatible process fluids.

When the actuator shaft is lower than the required coupling height for the switch box or sensor.

Shaft alignment, mechanical play, extension wear, proper fastening, limit switch activation, and stable open/close indication.
