In many cases, a rotary actuator cannot or must not be mounted directly on the valve without mounting accessories. We not only offer you the right adapters for this, but also the design of the right mounting parts. Simply send us the data sheets for the valve and actuator with your request, along with the details of the respective size and nominal width that you want to combine. We'll take care of the rest. This saves you a lot of time and we also provide a full guarantee for the accuracy of the fit.
Eurotec ARE Adaptors
Eurotec ARE adaptors (coupling blanks) are mechanical interface components for connecting rotary actuators to valve shafts. They are used when direct actuator-to-valve connection is not possible due to mismatched shaft geometry, height, or drive configuration. The actuator side of the ARE is machined to match the actuator output, while the valve side is supplied either blank or semi-machined for final adaptation to the specific valve shaft.
Role in Installation
The ARE is installed between the actuator output and the valve stem. It does not contact the process medium. Its function is strictly mechanical: torque transmission and compensation for dimensional or geometric mismatches between actuator and valve interfaces.
Typical assemblies include:
- ball valves,
- butterfly valves,
- plug valves,
- pneumatic or electric rotary actuators,
- retrofit applications where the existing valve does not have a standardized drive.
Selection Criteria
ARE selection is based on valve and actuator datasheets. Eurotec specifies that information on the valve, actuator, size, and DN is required to design the correct mounting parts.
Key parameters:
- valve shaft type: square, keyed, double-D, or custom machining,
- actuator output dimension,
- required torque,
- coupling height,
- ISO 5211 flanges,
- tolerances and alignment.
Technical Note
Incorrect machining of the coupling can cause eccentric loading, increased operating torque, stem packing wear, or incomplete valve closure. ARE adaptors should be specified together with the appropriate bracket or mounting kit.
Certifications
Eurotec ARE adaptors are manufactured under DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 and ISO/IEC 80079-34 for equipment intended for explosive atmospheres. Ex suitability applies to the complete assembly, not just the mechanical adaptor.
FAQ
When is ARE used?
When mechanical adaptation is required between valve shaft and actuator output.
What is checked during maintenance?
Mechanical play, fastener tightness, corrosion, alignment, coupling wear, and increased operating torque.
