MEI CC – Counterweight Wafer Check Valve

The MEI CC is a wafer-type check valve with an external counterweight, designed for large diameter pipelines where adjustable opening pressure is required to match actual process conditions. The disc opens via differential flow pressure and closes when flow decreases or reverses. No actuator is used; closure is purely mechanical.

Technical Specifications

  • Type: Counterweight check valve, wafer pattern.
  • Construction: Self-centering, short face-to-face dimension.
  • Sizes: DN300–DN800.
  • Flanges: EN 1092-1 PN6 / PN10 / PN16 / PN25 and ANSI 150 RF compatibility.
  • Body materials: Zinc-plated carbon steel or AISI 316 stainless steel.
  • Seat: Metal-to-metal or resilient soft seat options.
  • Pressure ratings: PN6 (6 bar), PN10 (10 bar), PN16 (16 bar), PN25 (25 bar), ANSI150 (20 bar).

Counterweight Operation

The key feature of the CC series is the adjustable opening pressure via the external counterweight. This allows adaptation to varying flow rates, differential pressures, and installation conditions. Adjustment should be based on the system’s hydraulic curve, not solely on pipe DN.

Applications

Suitable for large water mains, industrial networks, pump stations, cooling circuits, and applications requiring controlled disc closure dynamics. AISI 316 version is recommended for corrosive media, subject to chemical compatibility and temperature assessment.

Selection Considerations

Selection should account for flow rate, pressure drop, installation orientation, available differential pressure, seat material, and counterweight adjustment. At low flows or with turbulent media, the disc may oscillate, causing noise and seat wear.

FAQ

When is a counterweight specified?
When adjustable opening pressure or controlled disc movement is required in large diameters.

How does CC differ from CV/CS types?
CC covers larger DN and includes a counterweight for operational adjustment, while CV/CS are simpler wafer check valves without counterweight adjustment.
