Y-Type Strainers Cast Blu Zac FYCA

Blu Zac FYCA are cast Y-type strainers designed for permanent installation in liquid or gas pipelines. Typical installation points include upstream of pumps, control valves, flow meters, steam traps, and heat exchangers, to retain solids such as weld slag, rust, scale, or process particulates.

Application Scope

Suitable, following material compatibility review, for:

  • water, seawater, and auxiliary networks,
  • petroleum products and derivatives,
  • air, gases, and chemical products,
  • process lines with ASME piping specification.

Standard cast range covers sizes 2" to 24". Bronze version available in ½" to 4".

Connections and Standards

Standard connections:

  • BW per ANSI B16.25,
  • Flanged per ANSI B16.5,
  • For bronze: SW per ANSI B16.11,
  • For bronze: threaded NPT / BSP per ANSI B1.20.1 / BS21.

Design in accordance with ASME VIII Div.1 and ASME B16.34.

Materials and Screen

Body available in ASTM A216 WCB, ASTM A352 LCC, ASTM A351 CF8, or ASTM A351 CF8M. Screen in AISI 304 or AISI 316, standard perforation 1.5 mm. Gasket is spiral wound graphite with W-316.

Open filtration area is specified as greater than 300% of inlet cross-section, relevant for pressure drop calculations (clean and fouled conditions).

Construction Options

Available with bolted cover, bolted cover with handle, and drain in NPT, SW, or flanged + blind configuration. Standard drain is ¾" NPT-F with plug. Non-standard materials (Duplex, Super Duplex, Inconel, Hastelloy, Cunifer) on request.

Maintenance

Maintenance is annual or when differential pressure exceeds expected value. Monthly inspection recommended. Prior to cover removal: isolate, depressurize, clean screen, check for deformation, replace gasket.

FAQ

Can it be fitted with an actuator?
No. This is a passive in-line strainer.

When is CF8M selected?
When a stainless body with molybdenum is required for increased corrosion resistance.

What is checked during selection?
Pressure class, material, media, temperature, mesh, flow rate, Δp, and access for screen removal.

Description

The Y filter is the most common and economical type of filter for permanent fluid or gas applications. Thanks to its compact construction, its light weight and its easy access for rapid cleaning, it is used for many generally standard system applications.

Permanent filter, straight line, suitable for filtering fluids in either the liquid state (water, seawater, petroleum and its derivatives) or the gaseous state (gas, air, chemical products) through a perforated plate filter element placed perpendicular to the direction of flow.

Obtained by casting in sand casts, it is available in all standard materials (Carbon steel WCB Stainless Steel CF8M) and on specific request by the customer in non-standard materials (Duplex S31803, Super Duplex S32750, Inconel, Hastelloy, Cunifer, etc.).

The standard equipment includes a screen suitable for high pressures, which is easy to maintain and replace and capable of filtration of more than 300% of the inlet area.

OPEN AREA RATIO= 100 x Mesh Open Area x Screen Area / Inlet area (The calculations are based on the filtering percentage of the mesh’s surface area only).
