Strainers
Pipeline strainers are used to retain solid particles, oxides, weld residue and mechanical debris in steam, water, condensate, gas and industrial fluid systems. They are installed upstream of pressure-reducing valves, control valves, steam traps, pumps, instrumentation, heat exchangers and other equipment where contamination can damage the seat, stem, nozzle, impeller or sensing element.
This category includes Y-pattern, straight-through, Tee, Angle Tee, basket, duplex basket, cartridge, conical, temporary and special strainer constructions from ARI, Comeval, Noris, Conaco, Valvosider, Mankenberg, BLU ZAC, Tassalini and Genebre. Selection is based on flow rate, allowable pressure drop, screen perforation size or mesh, viscosity, operating temperature, design pressure, required media cleanliness, differential pressure under fouled-screen conditions and whether the screen can be cleaned in situ.
In steam and condensate service, correct orientation of the collection chamber is required, together with line draining before cover removal, gasket inspection and selection of a stainless steel screen with adequate mechanical support for high differential pressure. ARI strainers are available in Y-pattern, straight-through and butt-weld executions, with stainless steel screen or basket elements, standard or fine perforation options, Kvs values up to 1873 m³/h and temperature ratings up to 450 °C depending on body material and pressure class.
Available versions include DIN and ANSI designs, with pressure ratings from PN6 to PN160 and ASME Class 150 to 2500, and BSP, NPT, flanged and butt-weld end connections. Body materials include EN-JL1040, EN-JS1049, EN-GJL-250, 1.0619, 1.4408, 1.4571, ASTM A105N, ASTM A216 WCB, ASTM A217 WC6/C5/C12, ASTM A351 CF8/CF8M/CF3M and ASTM A352 LCB. Valvosider Y and basket strainers in DIN execution cover, as a typical range, PN10/16 up to PN160, with sizes up to DN600 or DN300 depending on design and pressure rating.
