Conaco Cast Y-Type Strainers

Conaco cast Y strainers are in-line filtration devices for solid retention in industrial piping systems with ANSI pressure classes. They are installed upstream of control valves, pumps, flow meters, turbines, and process equipment to prevent damage, fouling, or measurement deviation caused by weld slag, rust, or particulate contamination.

Types and Pressure Ratings

  • Type 707: Cast body, flanged or pressure seal cover, flanged or butt-weld ends.
  • ANSI rating Type 707: #150 to #4500.
  • Sizes Type 707: 2″ to 24″.
  • Type 777: Cast body, flanged cover, flanged, threaded, or socket-weld ends.
  • ANSI rating Type 777: #150 to #2500.
  • Sizes Type 777: 0.5″ to 3″.

Construction Materials

Available in carbon steel, low carbon steel, alloy steel, high alloy steel, and special alloys. Material selection should be based on piping specification, operating temperature, process media, corrosion resistance, welding requirements, and any sour service or special alloy needs.

Screen and Additional Options

Screens can be double or triple layer, mesh on perforated plate, or mesh-on-mesh. Options include magnetic assemblies for ferrous particles, drain connections with nipples, flanges, valves or plugs, vent connections, DP gauge ports, internal epoxy lining, cladding or rubberizing, and specialized paint systems.

Selection in Installation

Selection is not based solely on DN. Class rating, end connection type, flow rate, clean and dirty pressure drop, screen open area, and cleaning accessibility must be considered. For pump suction, increased Δp due to clogging must be checked against available NPSH.

FAQ

When is Type 707 selected?
For larger diameters or higher pressure classes, especially where pressure seal cover or butt-weld ends are required.

When is Type 777 selected?
For smaller diameters, with options for flanged, threaded, or socket-weld connections.

Can it be actuated?
No. It is a passive in-line strainer.
