Fabricated Basket Strainers Conaco Type 490
Conaco Type 490 are welded basket strainers designed for industrial pipelines with large diameters or special requirements. They are specified where higher solids holding capacity is needed compared to Y-strainers, and where periodic access to the basket for cleaning is required. Typical installation points include upstream of pumps, control valves, turbines, flow meters, and heat exchangers.
Construction Range
- Type: fabricated basket strainer, Type 490
- ANSI rating: Class 150 to Class 2500
- Sizes: 2″ to 60″ and above
- Connections: clamps or special flanges, per project specification
Materials
Available in carbon steel, low carbon steel, alloy steel, high alloy steel, and special alloys. Material selection should be based on piping class, operating temperature, fluid corrosivity, weldability, and project certification requirements.
Basket and Configurations
Baskets can be supplied with double or triple mesh layers, mesh on perforated plate, or mesh-on-mesh. Drain connections with nipples, flanges, valves, or plugs are available, as well as vent connections and DP gauge ports.
Lining and Coating
For corrosive or special media, epoxy lining, cladding, or rubberizing can be specified. External coating systems are selected according to installation environment, e.g., indoor industrial, outdoor, marine atmosphere, or chemical processing units.
Selection in Installation
Selection is based on ANSI class, flow rate, mesh size, basket open area, allowable pressure drop, and available space for cover removal. For pump suction, both clean and dirty basket Δp must be considered to avoid reducing available NPSH.
FAQ
When is a fabricated basket strainer selected?
For large diameters, special flanges, non-standard materials, or when cast bodies are not suitable.
Can it be fitted with an actuator?
No. It is a passive in-line filter.
When is a DP gauge required?
When cleaning is based on measured differential pressure rather than fixed maintenance intervals.
