STRIKO Reverse Acting Rupture Disks – Metallic Types

STRIKO SU-R / SU-C are reverse acting metallic rupture disks designed for overpressure protection in pressure vessels, reactors, and piping systems. Installation is between flanges using an SHU holder or a pre-torqued SHU Pro holder, allowing controlled torque and disk seating prior to installation.

Operating Principle

During normal operation, the disk dome is loaded in compression. When differential pressure reaches the specified burst pressure, the disk inverts and opens without fragmentation. This geometry reduces fatigue under cyclic pressure and enables use in lines with variable pressure loads.

Technical Data

  • Series: SU-R / SU-C
  • DN: 25 to 250 mm
  • Burst Pressure: 0.3 to 70 bar(g)
  • Working Ratio: 90%
  • Burst Tolerance: from ±5%
  • Operating Temperature: -200°C to +480°C
  • Materials: stainless steels, Inconel, nickel, Hastelloy, and special alloys
  • Vacuum Support: not required
  • Burst Indicator: optional on discharge side

Application Scope

SU-R / SU-C disks are selected for:

  • pulsating or alternating operating pressures
  • backpressure up to at least 1.4 × nominal burst pressure
  • media causing deposits on disk surface
  • installation upstream of safety relief valves
  • requirement for in-line safety valve testing without removal

Certifications

STRIKO is certified to ISO 9001:2015 for development, production, and sales of rupture disk devices, and complies with Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU, Module D for metallic and graphite disks.

FAQ

When is reverse acting preferred over forward acting?
When cyclic pressure, backpressure, vacuum, or higher working ratio is required.

Can it be installed upstream of a safety valve?
Yes, provided the relief area, backpressure, and clear flow path are verified.

Description

Reverse Acting Metal Rupture Disc

STRIKO reverse acting metal rupture discs are installed in a standard holder SHU or in a pre-torqued holder SHU Pro between flanges. They are especially suitable for securing pulsating working pressures of medium to high strength.

Advantages in the application

  • fragment-free opening behaviour
  • ideal as single pressure relief unit or used in combination with safety valve
  • vacuum resistant design
  • optimum working ratio: 90%
  • counter pressures up to min 1.4 times of the burst pressure are possible
  • testing safety valves without time consuming removal
  • high pressure change resistance
  • equipped with a 3D name-plate for safe detection of correct direction of installation as a standard
  • ideal for securing media that tend to “cake”
