KITO E 16.8.1 N – Pressure/Vacuum Valve with Flame Arrester IIB1

The KITO VD/MB-IIB1-…/… is a terminal tank breather valve with integrated flame arrester, designed for overpressure and vacuum control in fixed-roof storage tanks. Installation is on tank roofs, manways, or vent lines. Not suitable for enclosed indoor installation.

Application

Engineered for flammable liquids and vapors in explosion group IIB1, including alcohols, with MESG ≥ 0.85 mm and maximum operating temperature 60 °C. For ethanol, methanol, or similar products, additional assessment and approval of the KITO BEH-3-80-IIB1 element is required.

Operating Settings

Vacuum pallet matches flange size; pressure pallet selected per required venting capacity.

  • Vacuum: approx. 1.8–60 mbar, by DN
  • Pressure: approx. 2.1–190 mbar, by pallet size
  • Higher settings available after technical evaluation

Materials and Sealing

Standard body: carbon steel; optional stainless 1.4571. BEH-3-80-IIB1: cast steel 1.0619 or stainless cast 1.4408. Seat and spindle: 1.4571. Seat seal: VMQ-FEP, options: Viton, NBR, VMQ-PFA. Pallet seal: NBR, options: Viton, PTFE, EPDM or metal; for ≥100 mbar use PTFE or metal seal.

Maintenance

Flame arrester element is fully replaceable. Periodic inspection includes checking for deposits, gap cleanliness, O-rings, pallet movement, and condensate removal.

Description

  • End-of-line flame arrester, explosion and endurance burning proof for all inflammable liquids and vapors of explosion group IIB1 and also for alcohols with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 0.85 mm and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
  • This device is not permitted to be installed in enclosed areas.
  • Installation on top of storage tanks, tank access covers or breather pipes.
  • Used as venting and breather device for fixed roof tanks to prevent inadmissible pressure and vacuum and to minimize gas losses by variable pressure setting.
  • An explosion proof condensate drain is also available for this model at extra cost.
  • KITO® BEH-3-80-IIB1 with additional examination and approval, applicable also for alcohols (ethanol, methanol…)
