KITO E 16.8 N – Pressure/Vacuum Valve with Flame Arrestor

The KITO VD/MB-IIA-…/…-A / -K is a terminal tank breather valve designed for installation on tank vent nozzles. It is used on fixed roof storage tanks to control both overpressure and vacuum, while providing integrated protection against flame transmission and endurance burning.

Application Scope

Suitable for flammable liquids and vapors in explosion group IIA with MESG > 0.9 mm and a maximum operating temperature of 60 °C. Adjustable pressure/vacuum settings minimize unwanted vapor losses and prevent excessive tank stress.

Operating Settings

Vacuum pallet matches flange size. Pressure pallet is selected based on required tank breathing capacity.

  • Vacuum: approx. 1.8–60 mbar, depending on DN
  • Pressure: approx. 2.1–190 mbar, depending on pallet size
  • Higher settings available on request

Materials and Sealing

Standard body: carbon steel; optional stainless steel 1.4571. Seat and spindle: stainless steel 1.4571. Seat O-ring: VMQ-FEP, with options for Viton, NBR, or VMQ-PFA. Valve seal: NBR standard, with Viton, PTFE, EPDM, or metal sealing available. For settings ≥100 mbar, only PTFE or metal sealing is used.

Variants A and K

Type A: PMMA weather hood. Type K: stainless steel 1.4571 hood with folding mechanism and thermal element. Flame arrestor element is fully replaceable for inspection or cleaning.

Standards and Maintenance

Certified to EN ISO 16852 and marked per ATEX 2014/34/EU. Maintenance includes inspection of pallets, seats, O-rings, flame arrestor cleanliness, and condensate presence. No electric or pneumatic actuator required.

  • As end-of-line armature for venting apertures on tank installations, valve is explosion-proof and endurance-burning proof for certain flammable liquids of the explosion group IIA with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
  • Used as venting and breather device for fixed roof tanks to prevent inadmissible pressure and vacuum and to minimize unwelcome gas losses by variable pressure setting.
  • If desired by the customer, the valve is equipped with an explosion-proof condensate drain device.
