The Cla-Val 90FM-2 is an automatic pressure reducing valve designed for shipboard piping systems where downstream pressure stabilization is required, regardless of upstream pressure fluctuations or variable demand. Typical applications include sanitary flushing and evaporator cooling systems. For 4"–8" sizes, refer to model 90M.
The 90FM-2 operates as a pressure reducing control valve, modulating its opening to maintain a preset downstream pressure. An increase in downstream pressure causes the valve to restrict flow, while a pressure drop prompts the valve to open further to meet demand.
This valve is not a safety device and does not replace a relief valve where overpressure protection is required.
Selection requires confirmation of upstream and required downstream pressure, minimum and maximum flow rates, connection class, operating medium, and union or flanged configuration. For retrofit, verify face-to-face dimensions, pilot line space, and isolation capability for maintenance.
Routine inspection should include pilot line filters, internal passage cleanliness, diaphragm and seat condition, downstream pressure setting, and valve response to flow changes. In systems with dissolved solids or particulates, more frequent cleaning is recommended.
