Eurotec D-Box Ex d – Flameproof Switchbox for Valve Position Feedback

The Eurotec D-Box is a position feedback enclosure for valves equipped with pneumatic rotary actuators. The housing is Ex d / flameproof and is specified where electrical contacts or sensors must operate within a certified explosion-proof enclosure. The unit provides open/closed signals to PLC, DCS, or SIS systems and does not come into contact with process media.

Explosion Protection

The D-Box is suitable for installations in Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 21, and Zone 22, depending on final configuration. Markings include:

Variants with Ex db ia IIC T6 Gb are available for intrinsically safe sensor circuits

Certification: EPS 16 ATEX 1 031 X and IECEx EPS 16.0011 X, compliant with EN/IEC 60079-0, 60079-1, and 60079-31.

Construction

The enclosure is made from copper-free aluminium (Cu <0.05%). Stainless steel 1.4401 versions are available for saline, sulphurous, or ammonia-rich environments.

Switch and Sensor Options

Depending on part number, the D-Box can accommodate:

1–4 mechanical microswitches
1–4 V3 inductive sensors
1–3 slot sensors
1–2 cylindrical sensors

Certified electrical limits: up to 250 V, up to 10 A, depending on installed switch/sensor. Permitted ambient temperature: -55 °C to +75 °C, depending on sealing.

Selection Criteria

Selection is not based on valve PN/Class. Consider:

Ex zone and gas/dust group
T-class and maximum surface temperature
Switch type and PLC input load
Ex d cable gland type
Mechanical compatibility with actuator (VDI/VDE 3845)

Installation and Maintenance

Only approved Ex d cable glands are used. Unused entries must be sealed with certified blind plugs. Flamepath repairs require manufacturer consultation.
