Fival F16 – Replacement Packing Ring for Level Gauge Valves
The Fival F16 is a replacement sealing ring designed for use in the gland assembly of level gauge valves. It provides controlled compression around moving or stationary stems, ensuring leak-tight operation for water, steam, or process fluids. The F16 is referenced as a replacement packing ring for Fival-type F16 gauge cocks in technical documentation.
F16 Dimensions
According to the technical drawing, the F16 type is specified as follows:
- Inner diameter: Ø16 mm
- Outer diameter: Ø23.5 mm
- Length/thickness: 10 mm
The same datasheet includes other packing sleeve types (F12.2, F12.3, F18.2, F18.3, F22.2) with different bore counts and dimensions (ØA, ØB, ØD, C).
Sealing Materials
Available material options include:
- Graphite: Standard for saturated steam, water, gases, hydrocarbons, and oils.
- PTFE: Used for aggressive acids, light gases, food-grade, and cryogenic circuits.
Material selection should consider process media, temperature, chemical compatibility, and valve operation frequency.
Applications
F16 rings are used in gauge cocks and level indicators for:
- Steam boilers
- Condensate tanks
- Feedwater tanks
- Auxiliary process vessels
- Steam, water, gas, or oil circuits
Maintenance & Replacement
Replacement requires a clean seating surface, uniform gland tightening, and inspection of the stem for scoring or corrosion. Excessive tightening increases operating torque; insufficient compression may cause minor leakage at the gland.
