NORIS DIN 7081 – Borosilicate Glass for Level Gauges
NORIS glasses according to DIN 7081 are replacement borosilicate glass plates for visual level gauges in boilers, pressure vessels, and industrial liquid circuits. These are not complete gauge assemblies; selection is based on compatibility with existing gauge bodies, dimensional fit, gasket selection, and permissible operating conditions.
Variants
- R-form / Reflex glass: Grooved on the medium side, suitable for Reflex-type level gauges.
- T-form / Transparent glass: Clear, ungrooved glass for Transparent-type level gauges.
- Material: Borosilicate glass per DIN 7081.
- Sealing surfaces: Ground sealing or pressure faces, depending on type.
Dimensions
Available sizes are specified as l × b × h. Standard widths include 30 mm and 34 mm, thicknesses 17 mm and 21 mm, and lengths from 95 mm to 500 mm, per DIN standard sizes and gauge type. Selection must consider the gauge seat, visible length, and cover type.
Gaskets and Installation
Each glass requires a gasket on the medium side and a compensating seal on the cover side. Gasket material selection should be based on temperature, pressure, chemical compatibility, and thermal cycling frequency.
Typical Applications
- Steam boiler gauge glasses
- Condensate tanks
- Feedwater tanks
- Hot water circuits
- Process vessels requiring local visual indication
Maintenance Considerations
During replacement, check seat flatness, surface cleanliness, correct orientation for Reflex glass, and uniform bolt tightening. For non-standard sizes, alternative materials, or elevated temperatures, special versions are available upon technical review.
