Reflex level gauges provide local visual indication by differentiating liquid and vapour phases through optical refraction on a prismatic glass surface. They are commonly used on steam boilers, pressure vessels and process tanks where clear local indication of liquid level is required.

Transparent level gauges allow direct observation of the liquid column. They are suitable when the operator must see colour, turbidity, foaming or suspended solids, not only the level interface. In low-light areas, an illumination lamp may be required.

Magnetic level gauges use a float inside a chamber and an external magnetic indication system. They can be equipped with level switches or 4–20 mA transmitters, allowing the local level indication to be connected to PLC, BMS or alarm systems.

Level gauge cocks are safety-critical components. They allow isolation, draining and maintenance of the glass gauge without immediate intervention on the main vessel. Selection must consider PN rating, temperature, body material, packing material, drain arrangement and compatibility with the gauge type.

For boilers and pressure vessels, the level gauge is not a visual accessory only. It is part of the operating safety concept and must be selected, installed and maintained according to pressure, temperature, medium and inspection requirements.
