NORIS – Gaskets for Sight Glass Level Gauges
NORIS gaskets are used in sight glass level gauges with glass plates, serving as sealing elements between the glass, gauge body, and cover. These are not level indication components but critical sealing spares that directly affect leakage, glass compression, and safe operation under steam or process liquid conditions.
Types
- Round gaskets for circular sight glasses.
- Elongated gaskets for Reflex or Transparent glass plates.
- MICA shields for glass protection in high-temperature or chemically aggressive environments.
Dimensions
Round glass gaskets are available in outer/inner diameters from Ø45/32 mm up to Ø250/225 mm. Elongated gaskets cover lengths 95–500 mm and widths 30 or 34 mm, depending on glass type and gauge body design.
Sealing Materials
Available materials:
- Asbestos-free fiber (e.g., Klingersil C4400)
- Graphite
- PTFE
- Viton
- Silicone
- EPDM
- MICA
- Special materials on request: Hostaflon, TFM, Gylon
Material selection must consider temperature, pressure, process media, chemical compatibility, thermal cycling, and required compressibility.
Installation
Each glass plate requires one gasket on the process side and a compensating seal on the cover side. Uneven tightening can cause point loading on the glass or micro-leakage after thermal cycling.
Applications
Used in boiler sight glasses, condensate tanks, feedwater tanks, hot water circuits, and industrial vessels with local level indication. Suitable for steam, water, and various process fluids.
FAQ
When should gaskets be replaced?
Upon glass replacement, evidence of leakage, loss of compression, or after thermal stress.
What should be checked before ordering?
Glass type, length, width, diameters, gasket material, process side contact, and operating conditions.
