Miyawaki ER120 – Inverted Bucket Steam Trap
The Miyawaki ER120 is an inverted bucket steam trap made from cast iron FC250, designed for high condensate loads in low/medium pressure steam networks. It features flanged connections ranging from 1½" to 2½" and operates without the need for electric or pneumatic actuators.
Technical Specifications
- Versions: ER120-8 and ER120-16.
- Maximum Operating Pressure: 0.8 MPa or 1.6 MPa.
- Maximum Differential Pressure: 0.8 MPa or 1.6 MPa.
- PMA: 1.6 MPa.

- Connection: Flanged FF/RF.
- Flange Standards: ASME/JPI 150 lb, ASME/JPI 300 lb, DIN PN16, JIS 10K / 16K / 20K. Note: ASME/JPI 300 lb not available for 2½".
Operation
The inverted bucket and U-shaped duct separate steam and condensate before reaching the valve assembly. As condensate level rises, the bucket loses buoyancy, opening the valve. When steam enters, the bucket rises, closing the seat. A small vent hole in the bucket removes warm air and non-condensable gases, reducing air locking.
Applications
Suitable for heat exchangers, dryers, unit heaters, industrial steam lines, dyeing processes, cleaning operations, food/beverage, and HVAC systems. Supports condensate recovery with back pressure up to 90% of upstream pressure, provided the return line has proper check valves and hydraulic layout.
Installation and Maintenance
Install with horizontal flow, nameplate on top, and direction according to body arrow. Position the steam trap lower than the condensate-producing equipment; if not feasible, a lift fitting is required. Allow maintenance space of over 300 mm and blow-off the line before startup.
FAQ
When to choose ER120 over ER116?
Select ER120 for higher condensate discharge in DN40–DN65.
What to check in reduced discharge?
Inspect PMO, available Δp, clogged screen, debris in main/pilot valve, and blocked bucket vent hole.
