BLU ZAC TIB – Inverted Bucket Steam Trap

The BLU ZAC TIB is an inverted bucket steam trap with a welded body, designed for condensate drainage from high-pressure steam networks and applications with increased flow. Its operation is mechanical, without the need for electrical or pneumatic actuators.

Operating Principle

At startup, the bucket is in a low position with the valve open to discharge cold condensate. When steam enters, it becomes trapped under the inverted bucket, causing it to rise and close the seat. As the steam condenses, the bucket sinks, and internal pressure discharges the accumulated condensate. Discharge is intermittent, and the technical documentation notes potential live steam loss.

Technical Specifications

  • Sizes: 1/2" to 6".
  • Rating: 600.
  • Maximum differential pressure: 10, 20, 40, or 60 bar, depending on version.
  • Minimum differential pressure: 0.1 bar.
  • Maximum backpressure: 80% of upstream pressure.
  • Body/Cover Materials: ASTM A105, A350 LF2, A182 F304, F316, and special alloys upon specification.
  • Seat: AISI 410.
  • Bucket, lever, pivot, and supports: AISI 304 or 316.
  • Gaskets: spiral wound graphite / 316.

Connections and Standards

Available with BW per ANSI B16.25, flanges ANSI B16.5, socket weld per ANSI B16.11, and threads NPT/BSP per ANSI B1.20.1 / ANSI BS21. Operating limits are stated according to ISO 6552.

Applications

  • Main steam lines,
  • steam tracing,
  • turbines,
  • marine installations,
  • presses and heated equipment.

Selection is based on condensate load, available Δp, backpressure, steam pressure/temperature, DN, body material, and connection type.

Installation and Maintenance

Installation is vertical below the drainage point to keep the bucket submerged. A strainer upstream and a check valve for very low loads or superheated steam are recommended. During service, inspect the bucket, lever, seat, gaskets, and check for leakage after gradual restart.

Description

The inverted bucket type of steam trap is created for standard and special applications, designed to the customer’s specifications, welded body.

Steam traps suitable for high pressures and capacities, usable for all applications.

How it works:

  1. The bucket is placed on the base, the shutter is opened; in the steam trap there is no fluid of any kind.
  2. Start-up: when the condensate begins to circulate, the bucket is prevented from floating and the steam trap eliminates the excess condensate.
  3. As the system heats up, the condensate reduces and steam starts to arrive, accumulating inside the vessel, trapped under the inverted bucket, which allows it to float on the condensate and keep the shutter closed.
  4. As the steam condenses, the bucket sinks, returning to the base of the vessel where it opens the escape valve, permitting the internal pressure to discharge the accumulated condensate.
