AWS 916 – Dual Plate Retainerless Check Valve

The AWS 916 is a dual plate check valve with a retainerless body design, meaning there are no external shaft retention penetrations through the body. This configuration reduces potential external leakage points. The valve is suitable for industrial liquid or gas lines without solid particles. Operation is achieved via differential pressure and spring-loaded plates; no actuator is required.

Versions and Operating Limits

  • DIN version: DN50–DN600, PN10–PN40, face-to-face per DIN EN 558 series 16.
  • ASME version: 1½"–24", Class 150 / 300 / 600, face-to-face per API 594.
  • Temperature range: -196°C to +400°C, depending on body and seat material.
  • Operating pressure: up to 100 bar, with derating at elevated temperatures.

Materials and Sealing

Available in 1.4408 / A351 CF8M, 1.0619 / A216 WCB, and 1.4469 superduplex / A890 Grade A5. Shafts are AISI 316, AISI 304, or A182 F53, depending on design. Inconel X-750 springs are used for metal seats. Seat options: metal, NBR, EPDM, FKM. Soft seats achieve leakage rate A per EN 12266-1; metal seats achieve leakage rate G.

Applications

Used in chemical plants, refineries, industrial piping, marine systems, process water, air, gases, and compatible liquids. For seawater or brine, superduplex is recommended, with attention to chloride content, temperature, and flow velocity.

Installation

Requires clean piping, correct flow direction, centering between flanges, and 5×DN straight pipe upstream and downstream. Do not install directly on pump discharge flanges. In horizontal lines, shafts must be vertical; for vertical downward flow, suitability must be verified.

Standards

Compliant with PED 2014/68/EU, Annex III, Module H, CE 0036, and manufactured to DIN EN 16668.

FAQ

What is the difference from AWS 915?
The 916 features a retainerless body and is available in higher pressure classes, up to Class 600.

Is maintenance required?
Designated as maintenance-free, but periodic functional and leakage checks should be scheduled by plant personnel.
