Ball Valve with nipples - Type FR2 | ADLER

ADLER FR2 Ball Valve with Welded Nipples

The ADLER FR2 is a two-piece, full-bore ball valve supplied with 100 mm welded-type nipples for SW/BW plain-end connection. It is manufactured from round steel bar and is used on small-bore, high-pressure process and utility lines where a welded connection is preferred to threaded joints.

Technical Characteristics

  • Nominal sizes: ¼” to 3”
  • Pressure rating: PN40 to PN210 / ASME Class 800 to 3000
  • Materials: carbon steel, stainless steel, and special alloy steels
  • End connections: Socket Weld or Butt Weld plain ends
  • Full-bore construction for reduced pressure drop
  • Double sealing arrangement at the body/end junction
  • Chevron stem packing arrangement
  • Anti-blowout stem design
  • Antistatic device
  • Top flange according to ISO 5211 for actuator mounting

Standards and Available Executions

Design and construction references include EN 12516-2, ISO 14313, ANSI B1.1, DIN 3202 M3, and ASME B16.34. Available executions include PED, ATEX, SIL 3, ISO 15848 Class A fugitive-emission configuration, oxygen service according to ISO 23208, and fire-safe design according to ISO 10497/API 607 or BS6755/API 607/6FA.

Sealing and Trim Options

  • PTFE or glass-reinforced PTFE half-shell design
  • PTFE seats with glass, carbon, stainless steel, or bronze filler
  • Stem O-ring where compatible with the operating fluid and temperature
  • Stem extension or cryogenic extension for insulated or low-temperature service

Actuation Options

  • Oval hand lever for manual operation
  • Gear operator for higher torque requirements
  • Pneumatic or electric actuator
  • Pneumatic or electropneumatic positioner for modulating or controlled operation

Typical Applications and Media

The FR2 is applicable to steam, fuel gas, process gas, high-pressure utility headers, chemical fluids, and hydrocarbon service, subject to verification of seat material, elastomer compatibility, pressure-temperature rating, and metallurgy. Final selection should consider cycling frequency, shut-off leakage class, weld procedure, and access for packing inspection.

Variant Selection Logic

The nipple version is selected when a welded pipe connection is required instead of a threaded end. Compared with threaded small-bore valves, SW/BW ends reduce potential leak paths at the pipe connection and are normally preferred on high-pressure, high-temperature, vibrating, or hazardous-fluid services. Temperature limits are governed mainly by seat, packing, O-ring selection, and applicable pressure class.

FAQ

  • When is FR2 with nipples preferred? When compact high-pressure isolation is required with welded pipe ends and no threaded connection at the valve.
  • Can it be automated? Yes. The ISO 5211 top flange allows mounting of pneumatic or electric actuators, with positioners where control or remote operation is required.
  • Is it suitable for oxygen or fire-safe service? Yes, when ordered in the corresponding certified execution and with compatible materials, cleaning, and documentation.
