Comeval UNIFLOW Fig. BV422 Ball Valve

Two-way, two-piece floating ball valve in stainless steel ASTM A351 CF8M, used for on/off isolation in industrial utility and process lines. The BV422 series is supplied with female threaded ends and a full-bore flow path to reduce pressure drop across the valve.

Construction

  • Body: ASTM A351 CF8M stainless steel
  • Ball: stainless steel
  • Seats: PTFE
  • End connection: BSP female / female threaded
  • Design pressure: PN 63
  • Port design: full bore
  • Flow direction: bidirectional
  • Valve type: quarter-turn manual isolation valve

Typical Applications

  • industrial water and technical water networks
  • HVAC distribution and plant-room services
  • compressed air headers and branch lines
  • compatible industrial gases
  • lubrication and auxiliary oil circuits
  • process lines with chemically compatible fluids

The CF8M body material is selected where improved corrosion resistance is required compared with brass or carbon steel valves, particularly in wet services or mildly corrosive environments.

Suitable Media and Operating Conditions

Use with water, air, inert gases, oils and compatible chemical media shall be checked against PTFE seat compatibility, pressure, temperature and concentration. The applicable pressure-temperature rating should be confirmed from the manufacturer’s data sheet, especially for hot fluids or cyclic operation.

Valve Selection Points

  • maximum and normal operating pressure
  • minimum and maximum fluid temperature
  • compatibility of PTFE seats and seals with the process medium
  • frequency of operation and expected valve cycling
  • required shut-off tightness and allowable leakage class
  • thread standard, pipe schedule and installation accessibility

Sealing and Maintenance Considerations

PTFE seats provide soft sealing for bubble-tight isolation when correctly applied within the valve rating. In compressed air and gas service, periodic checks of stem sealing, gland condition and operating torque are recommended. Ball valves should normally be used fully open or fully closed, not as throttling valves.

Actuation Options

The standard BV422 is a lever-operated quarter-turn valve. Where remote operation is required, confirm the availability of an automation-ready variant or mounting arrangement for pneumatic or electric actuators, including stem torque, duty cycle, fail position and control signal requirements.

Variant Comparison

  • Threaded BV422: compact valve for small and medium pipe sizes where BSP female connections are specified.
  • Flanged ball valves: preferred where frequent removal, larger sizes or plant piping standards require bolted connections.
  • Reduced-bore variants: lower cost and smaller body envelope, but higher pressure drop than full-bore execution.

Standards and Certifications

The series is part of Comeval process valve ranges with available PED declarations of conformity. ATEX and EAC documentation may be available where required by the installation, hazardous area classification or project specification.

FAQ

  • Can it be used for steam? Only if pressure, temperature and seat material ratings are confirmed for the specific steam condition.
  • Is it suitable for throttling? No. It is intended for isolation service.
  • Can it be installed in either flow direction? Yes, the floating ball design is bidirectional.
