Ball Valve PN16/40 - Type 516/540 | JC

Spherical Ball Valve JC Type 516/540 PN16/40

Two-piece, full-bore flanged ball valve for on/off isolation in industrial liquid, gas and steam services. The valve is supplied in PN 16 or PN 40 pressure classes, with body material 1.0619 carbon steel or 1.4408 stainless steel and PTFE seats.

Construction

  • Split-body design with full-bore flow passage
  • DIN flanged end connections
  • Blowout-proof stem arrangement
  • Non-removable antistatic device
  • Pressure equalising hole in the ball cavity
  • Live-loaded stem packing for controlled fugitive emissions

Standards and Compliance

  • PED pressure equipment requirements
  • MSS SP 55 casting visual inspection reference
  • ATEX for potentially explosive atmospheres
  • Fire-safe design according to API 607 / ISO 10497
  • Fugitive emissions according to ISO 15848 / TA-LUFT
  • Wetted metallic parts referenced to NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 and NACE MR0103 / ISO 17945

Suitable Media and Operating Context

Used for isolation of process water, hydrocarbons, fuel gas, chemical fluids, compressed air, utility gases and compatible steam duties within the pressure-temperature limits of the selected body, seat and packing materials. PTFE seating should be checked against actual temperature, pressure cycling and chemical compatibility.

Typical Applications

  • Oil and gas processing and distribution headers
  • Chemical and petrochemical process lines
  • Power, steam utilities and auxiliary systems
  • Marine systems, tank terminals and loading lines
  • Mining, waste treatment, pulp and paper
  • Food, pharmaceutical and special-fluid transfer services

Variant Selection

Material 1.0619 is normally selected for general industrial processes and hydrocarbon service where carbon steel is compatible with the medium and corrosion allowance. Material 1.4408 is selected where stainless steel compatibility or improved corrosion resistance is required.

PN 16 or PN 40 selection shall be based on design pressure, operating temperature, flange rating, fluid phase, pressure surges and plant specification. Stem leakage class and maintenance access should also be considered.

Actuation and Sealing Options

  • Manual lever operation for smaller sizes and low operating torque
  • Gear operator for larger sizes or higher differential pressure
  • Pneumatic or electric actuator where remote isolation or interlocking is required, subject to available mounting arrangement
  • PTFE soft seats for tight shut-off on compatible clean services
  • Live-loaded packing for improved control of stem leakage during thermal and pressure cycling

FAQ

Is this a control valve? No. It is primarily an isolation valve. Throttling service should be avoided unless the application is specifically reviewed.

Can it be used on steam? Yes, when pressure, temperature and seat limitations are verified against the duty conditions.

When is stainless steel preferred? For corrosive fluids, clean process requirements or services where carbon steel is not acceptable.
