Ball Valve PN16/40 - Type 3316/3340 | JC

JC Ball Valve Type 3316/3340 PN16/40

Two-way split-body, full-bore ball valve with DIN flanged ends. Available in PN 16 and PN 40 pressure classes, with body materials 1.0619 carbon steel or 1.4408 stainless steel. The metal seat configuration is AISI 316 + TCC for services where soft seats are not suitable.

Construction

  • Full-bore flow path for low pressure drop and piggable or high-flow duties where applicable
  • Split-body design for inspection and maintenance access
  • Blowout-proof stem
  • Non-removable antistatic device
  • Cavity pressure equalisation hole
  • Live-loaded stem packing for improved packing load retention during thermal and pressure cycling
  • DIN flanged connections

Standards and Compliance

  • PED pressure equipment requirements
  • MSS SP 55 visual inspection criteria for castings
  • ATEX for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, where specified
  • Fire-safe design tested to API 607 / ISO 10497
  • Fugitive emissions: ISO 15848 / TA-LUFT
  • Wetted parts suitable for NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 and NACE MR0103 / ISO 17945 applications, subject to material verification

Typical Applications

Used in oil and gas, chemical and petrochemical plants, power generation, marine systems, tank terminals, mining, waste treatment, pulp and paper, food and pharmaceutical utilities, and transfer lines for special fluids.

Suitable Media

  • Hydrocarbons, fuel oils, solvents and process liquids compatible with the selected body and trim materials
  • Chemical services requiring metal seating because of temperature, abrasion or particle content
  • Steam or thermal fluid duties only after checking pressure-temperature ratings, packing material and seat leakage class
  • Sour service applications when the full material configuration is confirmed against NACE requirements

Variant Selection

  • PN 16: selected for lower pressure piping classes where the process pressure and design temperature remain within the valve rating.
  • PN 40: selected where higher design pressure, differential pressure or piping class requires the increased flange and body rating.
  • 1.0619 carbon steel: commonly used for hydrocarbon, utility and general process duties where corrosion is controlled.
  • 1.4408 stainless steel: used where corrosion resistance is required for chemicals, marine environments or more aggressive fluids.

Sealing and Leakage Considerations

The AISI 316 + TCC metal seat is selected where elastomeric or polymeric seats may be limited by temperature, erosion, solids, pressure cycling or chemical attack. Metal-seated ball valves require evaluation of allowable seat leakage, differential pressure, operating torque and cycling frequency.

Actuation Options

The valve may be supplied for manual operation or with pneumatic, electric or hydraulic actuation, depending on torque requirement, control philosophy, fail position, hazardous area classification and plant automation interface.

FAQ

When should PN 40 be used instead of PN 16?
Use PN 40 when the piping class, design pressure, temperature derating or shut-off differential pressure exceeds the PN 16 envelope.

Why choose a metal seat?
Metal seats are used for abrasive, high-temperature or particle-laden service where soft seats may deform, erode or lose tightness.

Is this valve suitable for throttling?
It is primarily an isolation valve. Modulating service requires review of cavitation, erosion, seat wear, actuator sizing and control stability.
