Ball Valve Class 150/300 - Type 3515/3530 FB | JC

JC Type 3515/3530 FB Ball Valve, Class 150/300

Two-way split-body, full-bore ball valve with ANSI flanged ends. Available in ASME Class 150 and Class 300, with ASTM A216 WCB carbon steel or ASTM A351 CF8M stainless steel body. Seat configuration: Aflas with metal seat support for services requiring higher thermal, chemical, or wear resistance than standard PTFE soft seats.

Construction

  • Full-bore flow path for low pressure drop and line-size pigging where applicable
  • Split-body construction for inspection and maintenance access
  • Blowout-proof stem
  • Non-removable antistatic device
  • Body cavity pressure equalisation hole
  • Live-loaded stem packing for reduced packing relaxation and fugitive emission control
  • ANSI flanged ends for Class 150 or Class 300 piping systems

Standards and Compliance

Applicable standards and certifications include API 6D, PED, MSS SP 55, ATEX, Fire-Safe API 607 / ISO 10497 / API 6FA, and fugitive emissions ISO 15848 / TA-LUFT. Wetted parts are specified to cover NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 and NACE MR0103 / ISO 17945 for sour or refinery service, when required by the process specification.

Typical Applications and Media

  • Oil and gas production, gathering, terminals, and refinery units
  • Chemical and petrochemical process lines
  • Fuel gas, liquid hydrocarbons, solvents, treated water, and compatible chemicals
  • Mining, waste treatment, pulp and paper, marine service, and selected food or pharmaceutical utilities
  • Steam or thermal-fluid duties only after verification of seat, body, and pressure-temperature limits

Operating and Selection Notes

Class 150 or Class 300 selection shall be based on ASME pressure-temperature rating, design pressure, design temperature, fluid phase, differential pressure, shut-off requirement, and corrosion allowance. The final temperature envelope must be checked against the manufacturer’s pressure-temperature chart for the selected body material and Aflas/metal seat arrangement.

Variant Differences

  • Class 150: lower pressure rating, typically used on lower-pressure process and utility headers
  • Class 300: higher pressure rating, used where line pressure, temperature derating, or piping class requires it
  • WCB body: common for carbon steel process piping and hydrocarbons
  • CF8M body: used where corrosion resistance to compatible chemicals or chloride-limited service is required

Actuation Options

The valve may be supplied for manual operation or with pneumatic, electric, or hydraulic actuation. For shutdown, remote isolation, or interlock service, actuator sizing shall consider break torque, maximum differential pressure, cycling frequency, fail position, solenoid logic, limit switches, and plant instrument air availability.

Sealing and Maintenance Considerations

The Aflas/metal seat configuration is selected where PTFE seat deformation, temperature exposure, chemical attack, or abrasive wear is a concern. Live-loaded packing assists in maintaining stem sealing under thermal cycling and vibration. Leakage class, fire-safe requirement, and fugitive emission limits should be stated in the purchase specification.

FAQ

Is this valve for throttling? It is primarily an isolation valve. Continuous throttling can damage seats and increase leakage.

When should Class 300 be selected? Use Class 300 when the piping class, pressure-temperature rating, or differential pressure exceeds Class 150 limits.

Can it be used in sour service? Yes, when the wetted materials and trim are specified in accordance with NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 or NACE MR0103 / ISO 17945.
