Ball Valve PN16/40 - Type 316/340 | JC

JC Ball Valve Type 316/340 PN16/40

Two-piece, full-bore flanged ball valve for on/off isolation in liquid and gas services. The valve is available in PN 16 and PN 40 pressure classes, with DIN flanged ends, PTFE seats, and body materials 1.0619 carbon steel or 1.4408 stainless steel.

Construction

  • Split body, full-bore design for low pressure drop
  • Flanged connection to DIN standards
  • Blowout-proof stem
  • Antistatic device between ball, stem, and body
  • Pressure equalising hole in the body cavity
  • Live-loaded stem packing for reduced fugitive emissions
  • Wetted parts suitable for NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 and NACE MR0103 / ISO 17945 applications, where specified

Standards and Certifications

Applicable compliance includes PED, ATEX, Fire Safe API 607 / ISO 10497, fugitive emissions ISO 15848 / TA-LUFT, and SIL 3 according to IEC 61508. The valve is also referenced for gas applications according to EN 13774 up to 16 bar and for transport of hazardous liquids and gases according to EN 14432.

Typical Media and Operating Conditions

  • Hydrocarbons, fuel gases, process gases, solvents, water, condensate, and compatible chemical fluids
  • Use in isolation duties, drain and vent lines, tank farm transfer, package units, and process skids
  • Temperature limits depend on pressure class, seat material, body material, and the applicable pressure-temperature chart
  • Not intended for throttling control; use as a shut-off valve in fully open or fully closed position

Material and Pressure Class Selection

Body material 1.0619 is normally selected for general process duties, utilities, and hydrocarbon service where carbon steel is compatible with the fluid and corrosion allowance. Body material 1.4408 is used where stainless steel compatibility is required, such as corrosive fluids, marine atmosphere, or selected chemical services.

PN 16 or PN 40 selection shall be based on design pressure, design temperature, fluid category, flange rating, fire-safe requirements, and allowable stem emission limits.

Actuation and Sealing Options

  • Manual operation by lever or gearbox, depending on size and torque
  • Pneumatic or electric actuation may be specified for remote isolation, ESD, or interlocked process sequences
  • PTFE soft seats for tight shut-off in compatible media
  • Live-loaded packing arrangement for maintenance of stem sealing stress during thermal and pressure cycling

Industrial Applications

  • Oil and gas facilities
  • Chemical and petrochemical plants
  • Power and energy systems
  • Marine and shipboard process systems
  • Tank terminals and loading lines
  • Mining, special fluids, and waste treatment units

FAQ

Is this valve suitable for control service?
It is primarily an isolation valve. For modulating control, a control valve or characterized ball valve should be evaluated.

When should 1.4408 be selected?
Select 1.4408 when the process fluid or external environment requires stainless steel corrosion resistance.

What affects leakage and maintenance?
Seat compatibility, cycling frequency, pressure-temperature conditions, stem packing design, and correct actuator sizing are the main factors.
