Ball Valve Class 800/1500 - Type 800/81500 FB | JC

JC Type 800/81500 FB Ball Valve Class 800/1500

Two-way, three-piece, bolted-body, full-bore ball valve for high-pressure process lines. Available in ASME Class 800 and Class 1500 with BSP, NPT, socket-weld or butt-weld ends. Body materials include ASTM A105N, ASTM A352 LF2 and ASTM A479 Type 316. Standard seat configuration: TFM + 25% glass fibre.

Construction

  • Full-bore flow path to reduce pressure drop and allow line pigging where the bore and end configuration permit it.
  • Blowout-proof stem for pressure-retaining stem design.
  • Non-removable antistatic device for electrical continuity between ball, stem and body.
  • Cavity pressure equalisation hole to reduce trapped-pressure effects in the ball cavity.
  • Live-loaded stem packing for improved packing load stability under thermal and pressure cycling.
  • ANSI dimensional and pressure-class basis.

Standards and Certifications

Applicable specifications may include PED, MSS SP 55, NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156, NACE MR0103 / ISO 17945, Fire-Safe API 607 / ISO 10497, fugitive emissions ISO 15848 / TA-LUFT, ATEX and SIL 3 assessment according to IEC 61508, depending on the selected execution and documentation package.

Typical Applications

  • Oil and gas production, gas distribution skids and high-pressure utility headers.
  • Chemical and petrochemical process units.
  • Power generation auxiliary systems and fuel handling.
  • Marine systems, mining services and waste treatment plants.
  • Pulp and paper, food and pharmaceutical utilities, where material and seal compatibility are verified.

Suitable Media and Operating Conditions

Common services include hydrocarbons, fuel gas, inert gases, condensate, water, compatible chemicals and selected low-temperature or corrosive fluids. Final selection shall be based on pressure-temperature rating, differential pressure, fluid phase, corrosion allowance, seat compatibility, fugitive-emission requirements and end-connection design.

Class 800 vs Class 1500 Selection

  • Class 800: used where the pressure-temperature envelope remains within Class 800 limits and compact threaded or welded-end construction is acceptable.
  • Class 1500: selected for higher design pressure, higher differential pressure or more severe process margins, subject to material, seat and end-connection limits.

Sealing and Actuation Options

Standard soft seats are TFM reinforced with 25% glass fibre. Stem sealing can be specified for live-loaded packing and fugitive-emission service. Operation is typically by manual lever; gear, pneumatic or electric actuation may be applied where torque, cycling frequency, remote operation or safety interlock requirements justify it.

Maintenance Considerations

The three-piece body allows removal of the centre section for inspection or seat replacement without complete removal of the pipe spool, particularly useful for socket-weld and butt-weld installations. Maintenance planning should include cavity pressure release, isolation procedure, packing adjustment limits and verification of seat compatibility after process changes.

FAQ

Can it be used for steam? Only if the selected seat, packing, body material and pressure-temperature rating are suitable for the steam conditions.

Is it suitable for sour service? Sour service requires NACE-compliant materials and documentation according to the specified environment.

When is a full-bore valve preferred? When lower pressure loss, cleaning access or reduced flow restriction is required.
