Cla-Val 585 – Flanged Swing Check Valve

The Cla-Val 585 is a full-bore swing check valve designed for water distribution and liquid infrastructure networks. The disc opens with forward flow and closes automatically when flow stops or reverse flow occurs. No actuator is required for operation.

Closure Devices

The 585 series offers three external closure adjustment devices:

  • Lever and Weight
  • Air Cushion
  • Lever and Spring

These options are used to control closing dynamics in pump stations and networks where slam or transient pressures are a concern.

Maintenance and Access

The valve body features a full-flow area and a top access cover. The stainless steel body seat is field-replaceable without removing the valve from the line. Disc seat replacement requires depressurization and valve removal as per the manual.

Installation

The valve can be installed in horizontal pipelines or vertical lines with upward flow. The counterweight arm must be set horizontally. Prior to installation, piping should be cleaned of welding debris, oils, greases, and foreign matter.

FAQ

When is air cushion selected?
Used in pump stations where controlled disc closure is required.

Is it suitable for potable water?
The epoxy coating is NSF-61 certified and the series meets lead content requirements for potable water applications.

Description

The Cla-Val 585 Series Swing Check Valve is designed for long service life and maintenance-free operation. It has a full-flow area body and is equipped with a disc arm with dual precision pins for optimum disc connection and protection against damage due to vibration.

During system flowing conditions the disc swings up to the open position allowing unrestricted flow through the valve. When system reverse flow conditions occur, the disc swings down to the closed position, preventing reverse flow. This product is available in sizes 2″ through 48.”
