Y-Type Strainer NORIS Bauform 140-A, ANSI 150 lbs
The NORIS 140-A is a flanged Y-type strainer designed for installation upstream of instrumentation, control valves, pumps, and equipment with restricted flow passages. Its primary function is to retain solid particles from the process line, thereby reducing wear on seats, impellers, and regulating components.
Construction and Materials
- Body: WN 1.4408 or GS-C25
- Cover: WN 1.4408 / 1.4571 or GS-C25 / H II
- Screen: WN 1.4571 / 1.4401
- Bolts: A4-70 or zinc-plated 5.6

Operating Conditions
Standard version features ANSI 150 lbs flanges, nominal pressure 19 bar, and maximum design temperature 300°C. Available sizes range from ½" to 10", with face-to-face dimensions per DIN F1.
Screen and Selection Criteria
Screen opening depends on nominal diameter, typically 0.6 mm to 1.5 mm. Selection should consider not only flange rating but also flow rate, differential pressure (clean/dirty screen), fluid viscosity, and available space for screen removal.
Variants and Additional Equipment
Options include:
- Double screen (WN 1.4571)
- ANSI 300 lbs flanges
- DIN flanged connections
- Drain plug
- Heating jacket for temperature-sensitive media
Applications
Suitable for industrial pipelines with compatible liquids or gases where mechanical protection of downstream equipment is required. For pump suction lines, pressure drop must be evaluated, as a clogged screen can impact available NPSH.
FAQ
Can it be fitted with an actuator?
No. This is a passive in-line strainer.
When is a double screen recommended?
For high particulate loads or increased mechanical stress on the screen.
When is a drain plug required?
When controlled draining is needed prior to cover removal and cleaning.
