NORIS DIN 8902 – Round Soda-Lime Plates for Sight Glasses
NORIS DIN 8902 plates are round observation glasses made from specially hardened, ground, and polished soda-lime glass. They are used as replacements in flow indicators, sight glasses, and inspection windows where the glass operates under compressive stress. The maximum operating temperature is 150 °C, with no restrictions in the low-temperature range.
Dimensions and Pressure
The series covers dimensions from 45 × 10 mm to 250 × 25 mm. The allowable pressure depends on diameter and thickness:
- 45 × 10 mm: up to 40 bar
- 63 × 10 to 100 × 15 mm: up to 16 bar
- 125 × 15 mm: up to 10 bar
- 150 × 15 mm: up to 8 bar
- 200 × 20 mm: up to 8 bar
- 250 × 20 mm: up to 4 bar
- 250 × 25 mm: up to 8 bar
Pressure should not be determined solely by the outer diameter of old glass. Thickness, visible diameter, seating, and operating temperature must be confirmed.
Sealing
Proper installation requires a gasket on the medium side and a compensating seal on the cover side. Gaskets are available in various materials and are selected based on fluid, temperature, pressure, and chemical compatibility.
Difference from DIN 7080
DIN 8902 soda-lime glass is used up to 150 °C. For higher temperatures or more demanding thermal loads, borosilicate glass DIN 7080 or a special execution is considered after application review.
Applications
Suitable for process water, gases, auxiliary networks, and compatible chemical liquids in flow indicators or windows where the temperature does not exceed the material limit.
FAQ
