NORIS DIN 7080 – Round Borosilicate Observation Glasses
NORIS DIN 7080 are round glass observation plates for flow indicators, sight glasses, and inspection windows in industrial lines. The material is borosilicate glass, specially toughened, ground, and polished for use under compressive load. The technical sheet specifies temperature use up to 280 °C with no restriction in the low-temperature range.
Dimensions and Operating Pressure
The range covers diameters from 24 × 10 mm to 265 × 30 mm. The visible diameter d1 ranges from 15 mm to 240 mm. Maximum operating pressure depends on glass diameter and thickness; smaller sizes reach up to 150–200 bar, while larger dimensions have lower limits, e.g., 250 × 30 mm up to 10 bar and 265 × 30 mm up to 8 bar.
Selection Logic
Selection is not based solely on outer diameter. Confirmations required:
- glass diameter d2 and thickness s
- visible diameter d1
- maximum pressure at operating temperature
- type of indicator or window for installation
- chemical compatibility with the fluid
- condition of seat and retaining cover
The technical sheet notes that a gasket is required on the medium side and a compensating seal on the cover side.
Applications
Used as replacements in flow indicators, level gauges, tank windows, and inspection points for process water, condensate, steam, oils, gases, and compatible chemical fluids. In steam or hot fluids, avoid sudden thermal shocks and uneven tightening.
Maintenance
During replacement, check the flat seat, remove gasket residues, and apply uniform tightening. Cracked, scratched, or clouded glass should not be reused.
FAQ
Is it a complete flow indicator?
