OMC DP5-D – Pneumatic Differential Pressure Transmitter for High Static Pressure

The DP5-D is a pneumatic differential pressure transmitter designed for applications where ΔP is relatively low but line static pressure is high. It operates on a force-balance principle: the measuring capsule senses the differential pressure, and the transmission unit converts this to a pneumatic output signal via a flapper-nozzle relay and feedback bellows.

Operating Range

  • Static pressure class: 400 bar, with technical data at 41 MPa / 410 bar
  • Span 2": 30–170 kPa
  • Span 3": 7–52 kPa
  • Output: 20–100 kPa, 0.2–1 bar, or 3–15 psi
  • Instrument air supply: 135 kPa ±10
  • Accuracy: ±0.5% F.S.D.
  • Ambient temperature: -40 to 120 °C
  • Protection: IP55 per IEC 529

Materials and Sealing

Body available in A216 WCC galvanized carbon steel or AISI 316L / A351 CF3M. Diaphragm is AISI 316L, filled with silicone oil or PFPE Galden. For oxygen service with Galden, temperature range is -20 to 40 °C. Seals are PTFE or Viton. Bolting is 17-4 PH per NACE MR0175.

Differences from DP5-A / DP5-B

DP5-D is selected when high static pressure resistance is required. It covers similar spans to DP5-A but with significantly higher static pressure limits. Not intended for very low ΔP as with DP5-B.

Typical Applications

  • ΔP measurement in steam, gas, air, or liquid lines
  • Filter monitoring in high-pressure networks
  • Pressure drop across heat exchangers
  • Level measurement in pressurized vessels
  • Pneumatic control loops with recorders, indicators, or controllers
  • Installations per ATEX 2014/34/EU, Gas Zone 1 / Dust Zone 21

FAQ

Is electrical power required?
No. Requires 135 kPa instrument air.

When is zero elevation or zero suppression used?
For level measurement with wet leg, dry leg, or offset zero relative to actual hydrostatic pressure.

Datasheet and documents

Description

The DP5-D works on the force balance principle and consists of two main units: The measuring unit which detects the differential pressure variation and consists of two forged bodies and a measuring capsule. The transmission unit converts the differential force applied to the measuring element into a proportional output pneumatic signal. The output pressure, generated by a flapper nozzle relay, feeds the feedback bellows with a rising pressure until the balance between bellows force and measuring element is reached. The whole transmission unit is contained within a water-resistant housing.
