OMC – Technical profile of a pneumatic and electro-pneumatic process control instrumentation manufacturer

OMC is an Italian manufacturer of pneumatic and electro-pneumatic process control instruments. Its range includes I/P converters, pneumatic and electro-pneumatic positioners, pneumatic controllers, pneumatic transmitters, limit switch boxes and air filter regulators.

I/P converters convert an electrical current signal, typically 4–20 mA, into a proportional pneumatic output signal. They are used when an electronic controller or DCS must drive a pneumatic actuator, relay or positioner.

Pneumatic and electro-pneumatic positioners are installed on control valves. They compare the input signal with the actual valve position and modulate air pressure to the actuator. Linear positioners are used on globe valves and diaphragm actuators. Rotary positioners are used on ball valves, butterfly valves, plug valves and dampers.

Pneumatic controllers provide local pressure, temperature or flow control without electronic control hardware. They are useful in older pneumatic plants, hazardous areas or local utility stations.

Differential pressure transmitters convert DP into pneumatic output signals. They may be used for flow measurement through primary elements, filter monitoring or level measurement in closed tanks.

Air filter regulators are critical for stable operation. Poor instrument air quality can cause unstable output, slow response, sticking or positioner failure.

OMC equipment should be specified as part of the complete control valve instrumentation package: controller signal, I/P converter, positioner, actuator, airset, feedback and hazardous area requirements must be evaluated together.
