KITO E 16.9.1 N – Pressure/Vacuum Valve with Flame Arrestor

The KITO VD/MC-IIB1-… is a terminal tank breather valve equipped with KITO BEH-3-80-IIB1 flame arrestor elements. Designed for installation on tank roofs, manway covers, or vent pipes in open environments. Not suitable for enclosed spaces. Used to control overpressure, vacuum, and vapor losses in fixed-roof storage tanks.

Application and Operating Limits

Suitable for flammable liquids and vapors of explosion group IIB1, including alcohols such as ethanol and methanol, with MESG ≥ 0.85 mm and a maximum operating temperature of 60 °C. Use with alcohols requires additional assessment and approval of the BEH-3-80-IIB1 element.

Sizes and Settings

  • DN 80 / DN 100 / DN 150: PN 16
  • DN 200: PN 10
  • Alternative: ASME 3", 4", 6", 8"
  • Vacuum setting: approx. 2.5–70 mbar, depending on DN
  • Pressure setting: approx. 1.7–110 mbar
  • Higher settings available upon technical review

Construction

Standard body material is carbon steel, with stainless steel 1.4571 as an option. The BEH-3-80-IIB1 housing is available in cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless steel 1.4408. Seat, spindle, and weights are stainless steel 1.4571.

Sealing and Maintenance

Standard pallet seal is NBR, with options for Viton, PTFE, EPDM, or metal-to-metal sealing. For settings ≥100 mbar, only PTFE or metal seals are used. Flame arrestor elements are fully replaceable, allowing inspection, cleaning, and replacement during maintenance.

Standards and Certifications

Flanges per EN 1092-1 Type B1 or ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF. Flow rates based on air (ρ = 1.29 kg/m³) with 40% accumulation above setpoint, per DIN 4119. Type certification per EN ISO 16852 and ATEX 2014/34/EU marking available.

Description

KITO® VD/MC-IIB1-…

  • As an end-of-line flame arrester element to protect vent openings of storage tanks.
  • Explosion and endurance burning proof for all inflammable liquids and vapors of explosion group IIB1 and also for alcohols with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 0.85 mm and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
  • This device is not permitted to be installed in enclosed areas.
  • Installation on top of storage tanks, tank access covers or breather pipes.
  • As venting and breather device for fixed roof tanks to prevent inadmissible pressure and vacuum and to minimize gas losses by variable pressure setting of the weight-loaded valve devices.
  • An explosion proof condensate drain is also available for this model at extra cost.
  • KITO® BEH-3-80-IIB1 with additional examination and approval, applicable also for alcohols (ethanol, methanol…)
