KITO E 15.2 N – Pressure/Vacuum Relief Valve with Flame Arrester

The KITO VD/KL-IIB1-…/… is a terminal pressure/vacuum relief valve designed for storage tanks. It provides both pressure venting and vacuum relief functions. Installed on tank vent lines, it integrates mechanical pressure/vacuum regulation with a flame arrester element to prevent ignition and sustained burning within the tank vapor space.

Application Range

Suitable for flammable liquids and vapors classified as Explosion Group IIB1 with MESG ≥ 0.85 mm and a maximum operating temperature of 60 °C. For alcohols such as ethanol or methanol, additional assessment and application approval are required.

Technical Selection Data

  • Sizes: DN 50, DN 80, DN 100
  • Connections: PN 16; optionally ASME 2", 3", 4"
  • Flanges: EN 1092-1 Type B1 or ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF
  • Body connection: standard lateral, optional vertical
  • Vertical connection for DN 100 only after technical review
  • Type tested per EN ISO 16852; marked ATEX 2014/34/EU

Pressure and Vacuum Settings

The vacuum pallet matches the flange size. The pressure pallet is selected based on required tank breathing capacity.

Typical setting ranges:

  • Vacuum: approx. 1.8–90 mbar, depending on DN
  • Pressure: approx. 1.9–200 mbar, depending on pallet combination
  • Higher settings available upon request

Materials and Sealing Options

Standard body material is carbon steel; stainless steel 1.4571 available. Seat and spindle are stainless steel 1.4571. Seat seal is VMQ-FEP, with options for Viton, NBR, or VMQ-PFA. Valve seal is NBR, with options for Viton, PTFE, EPDM, or metal-to-metal sealing. For settings ≥100 mbar, only PTFE or metal seals are permitted.

Maintenance

The flame arrester element is fully replaceable. Periodic inspection should include checking for product deposits, clearance of gaps, O-ring condition, free pallet movement, and potential condensate drainage using explosion-proof devices.

Description

KITO® VD/KL-IIB1-…/…

  • As an end-of-line flame arrester, explosion and endurance burning proof for all inflammable liquids and vapors of explosion group IIB1 and also for alcohols with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 0.85 mm and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
  • Safety valve for out breathing pipes of storage tanks as a protection against pressure resp. vacuum.
  • By appropriate pressure adjustment the gasification losses of the storage product are prevented or strongly limited.
  • An explosion proof condensate drain is also available for this model at extra cost.
  • With additional examination and approval, applicable also for alcohols (ethanol, methanol…)
