KITO E 14 N – Pressure/Vacuum Relief Valve with Flame Arrestor for Storage Tanks

The KITO VD/KL-IIA-…/…-A / -K is a terminal tank breather valve designed for roof installation, providing both pressure relief and vacuum relief functions. It is applied on fixed-roof tanks to control unacceptable overpressure/underpressure, minimize vapor losses, and limit atmospheric emissions.

Application Scope

Suitable for flammable liquids and vapors of Explosion Group IIA with MESG > 0.9 mm and a maximum operating temperature of 60 °C. The assembly is engineered to prevent flame transmission and withstand sustained burning at tank vent openings.

Technical Selection Data

  • Nominal sizes: DN 50, DN 80, DN 100
  • Connections: PN 16; alternatively ASME 2", 3", 4"
  • Flanges: EN 1092-1 Type B1 or ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF
  • Vacuum setting: approx. 1.8–90 mbar (size-dependent)
  • Pressure setting: approx. 1.9–200 mbar (pallet-dependent)
  • Flow rates based on air ρ = 1.29 kg/m³, with 40% accumulation above setpoint per DIN 4119

Materials and Sealing

Body available in carbon steel or stainless 1.4571. Seat, spindle, and weights are stainless 1.4571. Standard pallet seal is NBR; options include Viton, PTFE, EPDM, or metal-to-metal. For setpoints ≥100 mbar, only PTFE or metal seals are permitted.

Variants and Maintenance

Type A features a PMMA weather hood. Type K uses a stainless 1.4571 hood with folding mechanism and thermal element. The flame arrestor element is replaceable, facilitating cleaning, gap inspection, and periodic maintenance.

FAQ

Is an actuator required?
No. Operation is mechanical via pallets, weights, and setpoint adjustment.

When is type E 14 N selected?
When tank breathing, emission control, and flame protection are required for IIA media.

Is condensate drainage available?
An explosion-proof drainage device can be specified if process conditions require it.

Description

KITO® VD/KL-IIA-…/…-A

KITO® VD/KL-IIA-…/…-K

  • As end-of-line armature for venting apertures on tank installations, valve is explosion-proof and endurance-burning proof for certain inflammable liquids.
  • Used mainly as venting and breather device for fixed roof tanks to prevent inadmissible pressure and vacuum and to minimize unwelcome gas losses and inadmissible emissions.
  • Approved for all materials of the explosion group IIA with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
  • The housing is mounted perpendicularly on a tank roof.
  • If required by the customer, the valve is equipped with an explosion-proof condensate drain device.
