KITO E 13.1 N – Pressure/Vacuum Valve with Flame Arrester

The KITO VD/KS-1-IIA-…-A / -K is a self-actuated tank breather valve, equipped with integrated flame arresting for protection against ignition and sustained burning. It is installed on fixed-roof storage tanks to relieve overpressure and admit air under vacuum conditions, minimizing uncontrolled vapor losses and reducing mechanical stress on the tank structure.

Application Range

Suitable for explosion group IIA products, with MESG > 0.9 mm and maximum operating temperature 60 °C. Typical applications include solvent, fuel, alcohol, and volatile organic liquid storage tanks where both tank breathing and flame transmission prevention are required.

Technical Specifications

  • Nominal sizes: DN 50, DN 80, DN 100
  • Connection: PN 16, or alternatively ASME 2", 3", 4"
  • Vacuum setpoints: approx. 3–100 mbar
  • Pressure setpoints: approx. >200–350 mbar
  • Flow sizing with 40% accumulation above setpoint, per DIN 4119
  • Type tested to EN ISO 16852 and marked per ATEX 2014/34/EU

Materials and Sealing

Body available in carbon steel or stainless steel 1.4571. Seat and spindle in stainless 1.4571. Standard vacuum seal is NBR, with options for Viton, PTFE, or EPDM. Pressure side uses metal-to-metal sealing. The flame arrester element is replaceable for periodic inspection or cleaning of product deposits.

A and K Variants

Variant A features a weather hood in PMMA. Variant K uses a stainless steel 1.4571 hood with folding mechanism and thermal element. Condensate drain with flame arrester is also available.

FAQ

Is an actuator required?
No. Operation is mechanical, using spring and pallet.

When to select the E 13.1 N series?
When higher pressure setpoints are needed compared to lower-range tank breather valves.

Which items are checked during maintenance?
Seat, seals, pallet movement, flame arrester cleanliness, and presence of condensate.
