Sondex/Danfoss Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers with Welded Plates
The Sondex/Danfoss brazed plate heat exchangers are compact, gasket-free units with plates made from stainless steel EN 1.4404 / AISI 316L, brazed with copper, stainless steel, or CoResist, depending on the series and chemical compatibility of the medium. Selection is based on thermal load, flow rates, allowable pressure drop, inlet/outlet temperatures, and water quality.
Typical Operating Conditions
- XB05: G ¾, up to 25 bar for Cu, temperature -196 to 180 °C or 150 °C per version.
- XB06: G ¾, up to 25 bar for Cu, 16 bar for Cu+ / StS, temperature -196 to 180 °C.
- XB59: G 2 x 52 as per DIN ISO 228/1, up to 25 bar, temperature -196 to 180 °C.
Suitable Media
Suitable for circulating water, glycol-water mixtures up to 50%, ethylene glycol or propylene glycol mixtures, ethanol-water solutions, and other thermal fluids, provided compatibility with plate materials and brazing material is confirmed. In hard water, scaling control is required, especially above 60 °C.
Applications
- district heating and cooling
- domestic hot water production
- heat pumps, chillers, and refrigeration
- heat recovery in industrial processes
- cooling of hydraulic oil, engines, lasers, and process water
- evaporators, condensers, and desuperheating
Selection and Installation Points
Counterflow operation enhances thermal approach. Filters are recommended at each inlet, gradual valve opening, avoidance of rapid closure, and installation of a safety valve on the secondary side when thermal expansion is possible.
FAQ
Are there gaskets? No. Sealing is achieved through permanent plate brazing.
Which standards are referenced? PED for pressure equipment and DIN ISO 228/1 for cylindrical external G connections.
